First time playing Rebecca Walks Home at Night, tonight with my daughter. Super simple and quick to play, but a lot of fun!
Regretting not buying the expansions with the Kickstarter, since it feels like there is a lot of potential to build on here. Sort of a magic the gathering feel, where a simple base game with mechanic modifying cards can create a lot of depth.

First game of Final Girl. I did not make it. But I had a lot of fun! I think I'd like to play through a few more times before forming a full opinion, but it feels like I could get a lot of play out of it. The additional feature films all look tempting.

More #Weekend #BoardGames! I played the crowdfunded copy of #Hamlet that I received last week (saving the new expansion for later).
In Hamlet, we build out the map and refine materials for a church that will elevate our village’s status to a proper hamlet! It mainly focuses on delivery, but big points are also earned by filling out the town with natural areas too.
I wish that the graphics had been printed on the wooden church though; my sticker placements were a little subpar.

#Weekend #SoloBoardGaming time! Today I got a couple games of The Guild of Merchant Explorers and Galdor’s Grip in. GoME was a relaxing experience as usual, though I learned that I’d gotten the solo rule of blocking the goals wrong the last couple games (oops). Photos of this game demand better lighting lol.
Also, these were my first games of GG, and I found it to be a solid solo puzzle!

I finally participated in one of the monthly solo #Nusfjord challenges, specifically the freshly released one for November 2024! In these challenges, you aim for the highest score under the provided scenario. I got a cool 41! See the BGG post for details: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3397513/page/1
If you want to participate in the challenge, do NOT look at the C building cards! They’re to be revealed as you play.

To my #soloboardgaming brethren: hot off of the heels of #Solotober, a new solo #boardgames challenge in the form of #NeglectedNewvember awaits!
This is an opportunity to break out that one (or two or few) game(s) that’s been sitting on the shelf/in a box/in shrinkwrap for far too long and giving it some daylight/artificial lighting during the month of November.Details over on the Geeklist over at BGG: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/341664

Played a few games of #TuringMachine this morning with old man Tarzan keeping me company. The standard difficulty challenges were enjoyable, but the harder verifier cards are confusing and throwing me for loops. (I believe that they only verify one criteria for the given challenge? Not sure…) Regardless, puzzles are good for the brain!

Yes, it’s time for more #SaturdayMorning #BoardGames! Today’s a doubleheader with #Kinfire Delve: Vainglory’s Grotto and #TwilightStruggle: Red Sea.
Nearly made it to the bottom of the Well in Kinfire, but I gambled too much and lost via exhaustion card. Loving the art and presentation for this one though.
I actually started TS:RS yesterday, but it’s been a bit of a struggle (cough) to pick up the rules. But as my first historical (and #GMT) game, I’m enjoying it!

Time for Friday afternoon #boardgames, featuring #DaleOfMerchants! It reminds me a bit of Dominion, and I quite enjoy the variety of strategies in the different animal factions.
Here I’m playing against a great fan made solo opponent, the Guild (by runner199 on BGG). I’ve just baaarely eeked out a victory over them this time!
-
Here’s my top played #BoardGames from April, courtesy of the #BGStats app as usual. Lots of #RollAndWrite games (a first for my game group surprisingly, I love em myself).
Games that I only played once last month but can’t wait to play again: Apogee, Twilight Inscription, and Cosmoctopus -
It’s time for #SaturdayMorningBoardGames! I’ve finally broken out Tales from the Loop, a game about kids who investigate rumors and solve mysteries about strange occurrences in “the 80s that never were.” I’m playing two-handed here.
It’s based off of the amazing world and art created by #SimonStalenhag!

By the skin of their teeth, and with everything just barely managing to stay standing, my boys managed to successfully defend their gate and live to tell the tale!
-
Right. GATE is tough. Too tough.
So I decided to go to something only a bit less tough: #Grove. This evening is the first time in a million* attempts where I’ve actually managed to beat the score challenge, barely scraping 58 points against a target of 54 😅
It’s such a brilliant game, unassumingly tough despite being so simple to grasp and play.
*more like 20 attempts or so. Gotta add some DRAMA.
-
Been putting it off for too long, but today I’ve decided to learn how to play GATE.
-
Goodness me I actually did it! This is the first time I’ve beat the game beyond the tutorial scenario! Probably cos this time I was actually paying attention to dice placement 😅😅 #boardgames #sologaming #solo #soloboardgaming #UnderFallingSkies

Been a while, but it’s time to see if I can defend Washington DC from these invaders from outer space!

Found a whole set of #20Strong sets at Noble Knight today, so I grabbed them all to get in on the new hotness. After quickly losing my first three games of the Solar Sentinels set, I managed a solid win on my fourth game on easy mode (no missions). This one's coming along with me on vacation.

Sigh. Just played and won my first Solo Conquest game of Mage Knight, only to discover my clutch play of using the Sword of Justice with just-earned wound cards wasn't legal. This is what I get from internalizing that wounds count as "cards" thanks to the Planning tactic.
Oh well. I'll make sure not to repeat that error next time.
-
And several hours later, one completed tutorial scenario. Sometime this week, I'll give a proper Solo Conquest a shot!
-
I've owned this far too long without playing it. I played a friend's copy years ago, and I've watched a bunch of playthrough videos online recently, but I'm still going through the tutorial to build up muscle memory.
-
Still pissed off. Trying to take my mind off things with #Skoventyr and the #RLM #StarWars Holiday Special #BOTW.
-
About to play my first round of DustRunner. Wish me luck.

SO!
I decided to visit the King of Claws’ fief and see if I could win him over. He only required one good argument which I’d already won, meaning I had to lose the last three in my hand.
There was a 2 in 22 chance I’d win the next argument, so I was confident I’d lose it and he’d join my cause.
Reader, I won the next argument.
Meaning he huffed off cos I’d over done it with my arguments and I lost the fief and I am now cursing my luck.

Another #boardgames that showed up that I’ve managed to table a few times for #SoloBoardGaming and gotten one PvP group play in is #Voidfall by Mindclash Games. Just an enormous, sprawling euro game rooted in 4X ideas. It’s a mountain to learn, but once you know it, it doesn’t have the same mental load of something like a Lacerda game.
I’ve loved every play of the game I’ve had and look forward to exploring it for years.

I have a bad habit of feeling too tired to do anything, but too bored to keep watching mindless entertainment. #solotober2023 legitimately helped me to realize how energizing these solo games can be, and it got me to take another whack at Final Girl: Panic at Station 2891. This time, my partner (who was the one who purchased Final Girl in the first place but still hasn't played it) kept me company.
I did a lot better this time, both by luck and by strategy. I made an effort to find some weapons and test kits early, then started my testing. Only one of the three Exposed Victims ended up being a Mutated Organism, and I managed to kill it! Only for it to have the +3 final health token. The game ended when it got two attacks off on me in one round when I flubbed a Guard roll. It had a single health left. Sigh.
I know that this is a luck fest and it's a pain to set up, but I'm a sucker for good theme and this nails it so hard. I need to play this more often (and go back to the Alien one - I got really lucky the last time I played it and I want to see what it's like when that doesn't happen).

And that's it! #solotober2023 is done! Considering I didn't even know it existed on Oct 1, I feel pretty good about completing it. The period around my birthday and #GameHoleCon are going to be a struggle every year, but I'm fine with making sure I have the numbers even if I don't play every day.
Next year, I'd like to focus more on playing my heavier games on more days. There's a lot of lighter fare on this last (some from travel, some from time or energy), and I'd rather sink time into meatier games when I have the time and energy than "cheap out" with a bunch of e.g. Button Shy games. Maybe I'll consolidate those smaller ones into aggregated play sessions so I still get them to the table, but still hold myself accountable to play more stuff in general.
Altogether, I'd say this whole thing was great. It got me playing more solo games, clearing out some of my unplayed list, and thinking about what I like about solo games on the whole. It also got me buying more games which probably isn't great, but I enjoyed them! 😂
For the next month, I think I'll be focusing on two-player games. I won't be committed to playing 30 in November necessarily, but I'll do my best for sure! Off the top of my head, I'm looking forward to General Orders: World War II, Sea Salt & Paper, Sky Team, Air, Land, and Sea, Radlands, Watergate, and 7 Wonders Duel. And that's just the two-player specific stuff I can think of! There's plenty more. I already can't wait 🤩
