  1. USAnian liberals are v funny.

#RebeccaSolnit rightly observes that the #USA is being dismantled from within, but somehow thinks that's a Bad Thing™. :D

Yes, #Solnit really wants readers to believe in the virtue myths of an empire founded on violent conquest and racism, built on genocide and the Big Lie of "liberty". 🤣😅

Solnit is course right that #Trump is a depraved, crooked monster. But her notion of another, virtuous America, is a Big Lie.

Why does #TheGuardian publish this crap?

  2. The Beginning Comes After the End

#Agamben #Solnit

  8. > Chenoweth is a hugely influential scholar of nonviolent social change, best known for their empirical research that not only documents what makes civil resistance work but demonstrates that it works, often extremely effectively. They direct the  Nonviolent Action Lab, which studies how people have built movements and developed strategies to resist authoritarianism successfully ..

  9. 🌟 Let's dive deep into the essence of "Hope" before we explore the realms of self-care. Hope isn't just a whimsical notion; it's a powerful force for change. As Rebecca Solnit beautifully puts it, hope is the light in our darkest moments, a beacon worth fighting for. Just like your mental, physical, and emotional well-being, hope is a battle worth winning. Let's join Ms. Solnit in igniting a spark within us all to embrace hope in the shadows. 💪✨

Why is the #pundit class so desperate to push #Biden out of the race?
    Rebecca #Solnit

..."They have become a stampeding herd producing an avalanche of stories suggesting Biden is unfit, will lose and should go away, at a point in the campaign in which replacing him would likely be somewhere between extremely difficult and utterly catastrophic. They do this while ignoring something every scholar and critic of journalism knows well and every journalist should. As Nik."...

  12. "#Elections are won, to state the obvious, by how the electorate turns out and votes. The electorate votes based on how they understand the situation and evaluate the candidates. That is, of course, in large part shaped by the #media, as Hannah-Jones points out, and the media is right now campaigning hard for a #Democratic party loss. The other term for that is a #Republican victory. Few things have terrified and horrified me the way this does." (#Solnit)

  13. #Solnit 💯: "Much has been said about the age of the candidates, but maybe it’s the corporate media whose senility is most dangerous to us. Their insistence on proceeding as though things are pretty much what they’ve always been, on normalizing the appalling and outrageous, on using false equivalencies and bothsiderism to make themselves look fair and reasonable, on turning politics into horseraces and personality contests, is aiding the destruction of the United States."

  15. Rebecca #Solnit in 2016 -- "together we are very powerful . . ."
"Worse than these is the arrival of #climatechange faster, harder and more devastating than #scientists anticipated. #Hope doesn’t mean denying these realities. It means facing them and addressing them by remembering what else the 21st century has brought, including the movements, heroes and shifts in consciousness that address these things now."

  21. @Frohmann Rebecca #Solnit, Orwell's Roses. Biographie und Zeitgeschichte mit Gegenwartsbezug; dazu ein schöner Stil, gründlich und bedächtig. #MeinGutesBuch #lesen #Literatur #Bookstodon

  22. #NowReading Seems every left "leader" has to write an essay like this at some point, mainly to buck up the constantly disappointed troops. So I take these with a grain of salt, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the brilliant Rebecca #Solnit.

I will point out, however, that this is from six or more years ago, and things have gotten significantly worse since then.
