Je ne fête pas "Noël".
Voilà pourquoi :
Le christianisme a choisi le 25 décembre pour situer la naissance de Jésus, et Sol Invictus, dieu de l'impérialisme romain, était célébré à cette date.
Entre l'impérialisme romain et la prétention chrétienne à remplacer les anciens cultes par les siens, ce n'est pas quelque chose que j'ai l'élan de célébrer. Ce "moment privilégié" en famille n'est pas autre chose à mes yeux qu'un rappel de l'autoritarisme religieux et patriarcal.
Par contre, il est avéré que les cultes nordiques et scandinaves étaient attachés au Solstice d'hiver pour des raisons que je juge davantage légitimes. Le 21 décembre dernier c'était le Yule, le moment où la nuit la plus longue venait de passer pour enfin faire place à la lumière.
Ce phénomène témoigne des connaissances qu'avaient nos ancêtres en astronomie, et la réalité concrète de devoir surmonter le froid. On est loin de nos grands banquets, qui alimentent la machine des multinationales...
Plutôt qu'un dieu orgueilleux qui se prétend invincible, je préfère fêter le phénomène terrestre qui fait que les jours se rallongent pour prendre le dessus sur la nuit...
Mon neveu m'a rendue fière, en intervenant en plein repas de famille le 20 décembre dernier. Il a réclamé notre attention pour nous révéler ce que je savais déjà sur ces périodes de fêtes, sans lui en avoir parlé.
Notre histoire et nos diversités méritent toujours d'être rappelées... Et je trouve ça beau quand ce sont les enfants qui s'en chargent.

But, of course, the #Quechua are far from the only people to attach significance to the winter solstice. Germanic peoples had #Jule; just as Inti Raymi traditions transferred to St. John's Eve, so too most of Jule was attached to #Christmas when the early Germanic peoples converted to Christianity.
The Romans had #Saturnalia, but that fell a few days before the solstice. There was also #SolInvictus, but that was mostly a #pagan attempt to coöpt Christmas.
