RECLAIM THE SEA
Solidarity with the f.LottaIn the last few days, a fleet of boats has set sail south of Lampedusa to reclaim the #MediterraneanSea as a space of resistance. Together they denounce Europe’s racist migration policies. Policies that kill, imprison, and try to silence those on the move.
Each f.Lotta vessel carries a specific struggle, a campaign, a message: against borders, against far right on the rise, against genocide, against boat drivers being criminalised, the Italy-Libya Memorandum and others. As these struggles are not separate, F.lotta wanted to connect them on land and at sea, in the Mediterranean and beyond.
Pointing out and recognising the intersections of injustices and oppression is crucial in the fight against fortress #Europe and all oppressive systems.

Das Mittelmeer ist ein Friedhof. Das war schon heute vor 10 Jahren so: dem Gründungstag von Sea-Watch. Seitdem ist einiges passiert – eins hat sich nicht geändert: Menschen ertrinken, Rettung wird kriminalisiert. Der Widerstand bleibt – solidarisch, an der Seite aller Menschen auf der Flucht.

Kurz darauf erreichte auch die #NADIR den Einsatzort. Gemeinsam begannen die Crews mit der Evakuierung. Eine ins Wasser gesprungene Person konnte ebenfalls gerettet werden. Alle Geretteten wurden medizinisch erstversorgt und später von der Guardia Costiera an Bord genommen, die sie sicher nach #Lampedusa brachte.

Heute vor einem Jahr sind @IuventaCrew und die anderen mit ihnen angeklagten Seenotretter*innen von #MSF & #SafeTheChildren das letzte Mal aus dem Gerichtsgebäude in #Trapani gekommen. Nach einem 7 Jahre dauernden Verfahren hatte das Gericht entschieden, dass es nicht zur Hauptverhandlung kommt, weil die von der Staatsanwaltschaft erhobenen Vorwürfe durch nichts belegt sind.

Ihre Geschichten, die emotionalen Abschiede & ihr weiterer Kampf gegen die Festung Europa sind für uns Motivation, weiter zu machen.

My cough is getting worse and unproductive, and my partner is starting to come down with it as well.
Now neither of us are in adequate condition to get us moved out of our room in a matter of hours yet again later this morning. I finished the last of our cold medicine tonight. We fed the puppy the last of his food a few hours ago.
I know things are really bad.. everywhere.
I know we've leeched more than our fair share from too many here for too long.
We've taken resources that could've gone to others less fortunate.
We've cluttered your timeline with begposts while failing to follow through on all the recommendations and advice.
Still I come to you once again, pan in hand, pleading for yet more help.
I have something I've been working on - the most colossal Hail Mary (or whatever is the appropriate sportsball term) of my life, perhaps the very last hope I have - destined to likely never come to full fruition, to be a prematurely aborted disaster like most every other major endeavor I've attempted during my mediocre existence.
But I need to get rested and healed first. I need a few days of consistent nutrition and not panicking over the damned motel bill every single day. I need to be able to help my partner as he starts to endure this hellish flu or cold.
If (and likely when) I fail to make the aforementioned project materialize, I'm not sure I'll have much fight left in me. I feel like we're approaching sink or swim time, and I'm no good at swimming so if this doesn't work.. let's just say I've got no "Plan B". None.
Anyway, for the likely handful of you remaining that haven't already put me on permanent mute for my antics: I truly and sincerely wish I wasn't *still* tying up solidarity resources. I wish so much that I could help others. Nevertheless I don't know what else to do right now besides give up.
Evidently I'm not strong enough to be an adult. Something's got to give.
My family needs your help. Again. Please help us get through the next few days here in our motel room, our little place of refuge, while we recuperate and work on our most ambitious attempt at grand failure that we've ever undertaken. Please help us feed our border collie a little longer and put a few things in the fridge.

Gleichzeitig wurde 1 weiteres Boot in Seenot, das #Frontex entdeckt u. gemeldet hatte, wahrscheinl. abgefangen.
Frontex ist nachweislich an illegalen Abfangaktionen beteiligt und zwingt Menschen zurück nach #Libyen.
Die Louise Michel fährt weiterhin in diesem Gebiet, bereit zu helfen.

55 people have drowned in devastating shipwreck in front of the Canary Islands
In the first days of November, 55 people have died along the migration path to the Canary Islands. Another 1,786 people rescued in operations near Lanzarote and El Hierro.
The migration route along the Atlantic has become an increasingly common path to Europe, with its primary departure points in southern Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal.
With the escalation of violent interceptions by Libya and Tunisia, with the support of the EU, other dangerous migration routes have been used by people seeking safety in Europe.
For those trying to reach Europe from Senegal, the crossing is nearly 10 times longer than other Mediterranean routes.
Many boats, without proper navigation systems, are veering off course and some are drifting across the Atlantic to the shores of Brazil, taking hundreds of lives with them.
These are not numbers. These are human lives. The right seek asylum is a right protected by international law.
Rest in power.

Italy is systematically blocking rescue ships while people drown every day.
Under the so-called Piantedosi Law, Italian authorities have detained search and rescue ships 22 times since it came into force in 2023 preventing them from assisting people in distress at sea.These detentions are based on unfounded accusations and unlawful demands. Authorities wrongly accuse ship crews of uncooperative behaviour towards the so-called Libyan Coast Guard (scLCG), despite the scLCG's attempts to force people in distress back to Libya, violating international law. The law mandates NGO rescue ships head immediately to an assigned port after a rescue, ignoring other boats in distress, which contradicts international maritime law. The Louise Michel was detained for not sailing to the assigned port, which was not the closest safe port available, due to adverse weather conditions.
The Piantedosi Law aims to reduce the presence of NGO ships at sea, limit their rescue availability, and prevent arrivals to Italy. We call on Italian authorities to stop obstructing NGO search and rescue activities and protect the fundamental rights of people in distress at sea.

(english below)Einsatz #3/24 leider abgesagt
nach intensiven Trainings mussten wir nun unseren dritten Einsatz in diesem Jahr zu Unterstützung der zivilen Seenotrettung im Mittelmeer leider absagen. Grund dafür sind technische Probleme mit dem Motor. Zwar handelt es sich bei der TROTAMAR III um ein Segelschiff, und wo es möglich ist, nutzen wir den Wind zur Fortbewegung. Doch ein stationärer Motor ist gerade für Manöver während Rettungssituationen zwingend nötig.
In wenigen Wochen werden wir zu unserem Einsatz #4/24 aufbrechen, mit der nächsten Crew - und einem reparierten Motor.

UPDATE 2024/05/01 - TROTAMAR III - TRAININGS
(english below)Heute hat die Crew unseres Einsatzes #3/24 mit den Trainings im Hafenbecken von Licata begonnen. Mit einem zweiten Schlauchboot, welches die Seenotrettungs-NGOs in Licata gemeinsam beschafft haben, üben wir Rettungssituationen, die wir auf der Fluchtroute im Mittelmeer erwarten. Dabei geht es um eine erste Kommunikation mit den Menschen oder die Übergabe von Rettungswesten bis zur Rettung einer Person aus dem Wasser. Unser Ziel ist, mit den Mitteln an Bord die Menschen auf den seeuntüchtigen Booten zu stabilisieren, bis Unterstützung von der italienischen Küstenwache oder einem größeren Rettungsschiff kommt. Im Notfall nehmen wir die Menschen an Bord der TROTAMAR III.

Kidnappings following interceptions by the Tunisian Coastguard.
There are reports about kidnapping by criminal gangs at the Tunisian ports following interceptions by the Tunisian Garde National (TGN).
Yesterday, we spoke about how invisible shipwrecks are on the rise, caused by poor-quality iron boats departing from Tunisia. Those who survive and are intercepted by the TGN are expulsed to desert areas on the Libyan and Algerian border. However, sometimes, when transfer buses aren't available, they are left at #Sfax port by the TGN. There are increasing reports from local media and testimonials from survivors, of kidnappings of people on the move by criminal gangs, with ransoms being demanded for their release.
Whilst #Italy strengthens their cooperation with Tunisia, we see just how unsafe a place it is for people on the move. We stand against Europe's deal with #Tunisia and call for #EU money to stop financing these human rights violations.

The EU’s partner in crime!
Once again, we see the EU-funded so-called Libyan coastguard (scLCG) carrying out extreme acts of violence during a rescue operation in international waters, which has now resulted in the wrongful detention of a rescue ship. The scLCG are well documented for carrying out extremely dangerous manoeuvres, resulting in the capsizing boats in distress, however, now a more regular occurrence is the firing of live bullets.Just days ago, the scLCG was caught on camera firing at @RescueMed 's RHIB whilst carrying out a rescue of 58 people, risking the lives of all those onboard. Even though the dangerous criminal actions of the scLCG resulted in mass panic and people jumping into the water, Mare Jonio has now been detained for 20 days by Italy, accused of encouraging "migrants to jump into the sea" to hinder the scLCG operation. Shouldn't it be the ones carrying out the unlawful vicious attack being charged?
Last month we also saw footage of the scLCG firing shots during a rescue being carried out by @soshumanity_en. Humanity 1 was also detained following the false report from scLCG, this was later dropped, but only after the civil court in Crotone called it an "injustice of the measure issued".
Louise Michel stands in solidarity with the 58 survivors rescued by #MareJonio. We call on the EU to investigate this crime and to stop the funding of the violent scLCG. We call for Mare Jonio’s immediate release.

Für Frieden zogen heute mit dem Ostermarsch etwa 300 Menschen durch Lüneburg. Jan Becker sprach für das CompassCollective auf der Abschlusskundgebung im Clamartpark.

Louise Michel is having an engine overhaul
After 4 years with us and several years before at sea, Louise Michel gets a complete engine overhaul. Our engineers have torn the whole engine into pieces and put them part by part together again. Soon, the ready-to-use engine will be brought back to the ship so that the Louise Michel can sail back to the central Mediterranean.
We will be back at sea as soon as possible with refurbished engines ready to stand in solidarity with people on the move.
