  1. Minigrids and PV are great, but local businesses like bakeries need intense heat for cooking.
Electric ovens can easily overload a grid, but Lytefire solves this by using mirrors to convert sunlight directly into heat.
This is far more efficient than 20% efficiency solar panels and keeps minigrids reliable by displacing high-energy thermal loads.

  2. Raygen to build Concentrated Photovoltaic plant with Thermal and Energy storage.

The Yadnarie project, potentially sized at 150 MW of solar capacity, 90 MW of thermal energy capacity and 720 MWh (8-hours) of energy storage, has recently won state planning approval, and has long been expected to the first big project to be built following the success of the technology at a pilot plant at Carwarp in Victoria.

Solar Heat Europe, which represents the solar heating industry at EU-level has two interesting vacancies.

    Senior Policy Officer (full time)

Operations and Finance Manager (part time)

I worked for this association from 2002-2009 and can only recommend it. It's a small team, so you are immediately involved in various topics.

  10. CSIRO spin-off raises record amount to fund solar heat and power tech, get industry off gas

A new concentrated solar thermal company spun out of Australia’s national science agency, will deliver zero emissions, 24/7 heat and power that is both technically + economically competitive with gas

FPR Energy, launched on Tuesday after raising $15 million.

Been tested at 1MW / eight hours of electricity +16 hrs of storage 1200°C

No, Dutton, Not a nuclear plant, but the future. A 30 MW solar thermal project with eight hours of storage (240 MWh) in Port Augusta, and an accompanying solar methanol plant, in what would be the first large scale solar thermal project in the country.

Vast Renewables says it has now secured nearly half of a promised grant.

  17. @SuzanneR70 Building Standards? Do any governments offer support or guidelines for people interested in district solar thermal? Drake Landing 10+ years of success. Does it get hot in summer, cold in winter anywhere else in Canada? dlsc.ca/ #EnergyEfficiency #SolarThermal #BuildingCode

  18. @PhieLaidMignon

(Sorry I can't write in French...)
#SolarThermal has provided most of my hot water for 35 years. Lots of learning about #FreezeProtection at first - "drain back" required an unbearably noisy pump, "drain down" required tricky valves that failed often. And domestic water in the panels quickly clogged them with #HardWater minerals.

What works is a closed loop with antifreeze in the panels and a heat exchanger, heating a large storage tank. Domestic water passes through another exchanger in that big tank as it is used.

In my system a gas heater or a #WoodBoiler can also heat the big tank when there is no Sun. And the accumulated heat can be pumped through #Hydronic floors. All this was a huge expense at first, but divided by 35+ years (and current fuel prices) it is wonderful!

  19. Anyone have any experience running solar thermal and/or heat pumps on private water supplies (i.e: low pressure)? Can it be done and is just less efficient? Did you *need* an accumulator to raise the pressure? #renewables #heatpump #solarthermal #solar #greenenergy #centralheating

The kids I grew up with knew I was "different", but my parents and school insisted I was normal. Now I've explored #Autism #Prosopagnosia #Alexithymia and #Aphantasia and have an idea what was going on, but then I thought everyone saw the world like I did, just coped better. I coped by becoming a #PluralSystem by age three when I realized my girl self would have to be hidden. After six "guy" IDs, I'm now back being that girl. Still running the system, but with more E and less T...

Age nine I was forced to wear #Bifocal #PlusLensTheory glasses every waking moment. Shattered my body sense and #CognitiveMap - psychoros.com/consumed-by-the- Spent endless days of lonely boredom exploring the ~30° wedges of #SpatialViewCells and the flat dioramas between them. Now I'm rebuilding a 3D world around my body, where #HeadDirectionCells can have a single basis and #DorsalStream depth can pop out of the flat distance like content from a random dot stereogram.

Despite all that, I've been online since #ARPAnet and #DJNR, wrote the first magazine article with simultaneous code distribution (via 8" floppies in the post), coded fab robots to move 6" & 8" Silicon wafers, built my (almost) independent #SolarPV and #SolarThermal house (7K lines of C++ from 1998, 42 device outs), and evolved an audio system with bandwidth from DC to a half MHz. Helped raise four unique kids, as adult minds in young bodies. Still mystify most of the adults I encounter...

  26. Using #hydrogen for heating may sound attractive at first glance. However, all of the independent research on this topic comes to the same conclusion: heating with hydrogen is a lot less efficient and more expensive than alternatives such as #heatPumps, #districtHeating and #solarThermal such as #PVT.

May I point your attention to solar district heating.

Its not a pilot project. In Denmark they have them since at least 30 years.
