  1. Solarpunk Magazine announced that they suspect two stories from their last issue were a) written by the same person and b) were done using AI. Reflecting on that issue, I felt like there was something off about the two stories. They felt like they lacked some spark. The stories felt too similar. Like they were solarpunk pastiches with just the right mix of elements to make it recognizable.

Additionally, I tried looking up one of the authors and I found almost no footprint anywhere online. An author with zero social media or online presence?! Possible in this sort of community but highly unlikely to have NOTHING.

Great that they magazine took accountability for it and I hope to read more wonderful, human created stories about the future.

  2. The #SolarpunkCity is #Accessible

by Commando Jugendstil and Tales from the EV Studio

"How do people move around the solarpunk city?

With public transportation which has been enormously expanded. Private transportation is mostly limited to adapted vehicles for special #MobilityNeeds, and vehicles are available through #SharedOwnership schemes.
It’s concert season in the solarpunk city and Webby has decided to go to the auditorium on her Isetta EV, specially adapted for people with her mobility needs. It can be boarded through a ramp, and the steering, which features an extra wheel to control brakes and accelerator, can be moved out of the way to allow Webby to board and disembark seamlessly. Strictly speaking, the car is not just hers… It is part of a dedicated #CarSharing scheme, managed through a municipalized distributed ownership programme. Next to her, Diego, a #SightImpaired musician, follows the orange path painted on the floor towards the Auditorium: the sensors in his next-gen walking stick can tell him where to turn and how far it is."

  4. Season 3 Episode 9: Solarpunk, Art, and AI with Bri Castagnozzi of Solarpunk Magazine

In this episode, Brianna Castagnozzi, one of the editors-in-chief of Solarpunk Magazine, is here to give up the solarpunk artist’s eye view on solarpunk art and AI; a very different take than the solarpunk hacker’s view given to us by John Threat in season three episode seven. As much as I (Christina) was convinced by John’s advice not to stick your head in the sand but to master the tools of your capitalist overlords, Bri has equally compelling points about not joining into an activity that exploits the work of artists without their consent and without compensating them.

  6. Reading through the most recent issue of "Solarpunk Magazine" and wanted to highlight how much I enjoyed the story "Once and Future Kilowatts" by @susankayequinn. One theme I really like in many #Solarpunk stories is a reckoning with history and the need to remember the past as a ground to move forward. And the village in this story reminds me of communities where I grew up struggling with deindustrialization.

Worth reading (and subscribing if you haven't already)
