  4. Update from the #homeassistant trenches. Am trying a full fresh install but have found the #solaredge integration no longer accepts my credentials while this was working up until the system borked. Sigh.

  5. Q1 of 2026 is the hope we need to green energy.
    Can't wait for Q2 in 91 days.

    and Good luck 🤞

  7. Hey #solar fans in the US with old inverters. I saw our electric bill this month and we didn't get credit like we should have. I freaked.

Our system hadn't been recording production since Sept1. #SolarEdge pushed a firmware update that broke older systems.

    Check your data.

    I smell class action lawsuit....

  8. I am very very sure this message was not for me. And maybe someone „only“ mixed up ticket numbers and installations, but still…

    I now opened support-tickets *again*.

I am so #disappointed, I just cannot tell.

I waited 4 months for a new fan kit and I was happy the installation was just running fine again…

    This is so #exhausting

    #SolarEdge

Let’s wait for the usual 5 days of reaction time…

  9. If you plan to buy a #PV: Please do not use #SolarEdge.
The products are generally okayish, but the customer #support is total #crap. I can’t tell if there is too much AI, outsourcing, greed or brain drain involved. It just sucks.

Today I got a message into an „non-technical invoice ticket“: „we upgraded your firmware, it everything running okay?“.

Well, until then everything _was_ running okay. At 15h today the Smart-Meter went silent…

  10. "And just as with EVs, policymakers have focused on infrastructure and affordability without paying any attention to the enshittification risks. Your rooftop solar will likely be controlled via a Solaredge box – a terrible technology that stops working if it can't reach the internet for a protracted period (that's right, your home solar stops working if the grid fails!)."

    Holy christ-on-stick, that's ludicrous!

  11. #Solar inverters run on software. And any software can contain bugs or introduce regressions after an update. This also seems to be the case with one of the recent firmware updates of #SolarEdge inverters.

Under certain conditions, the SolarEdge Home Battery (48V) discharge is limited to ~ 1.6KW. Normally the maximum discharge of the Home Battery is 5KW.

A fix for this regression is now available.

  12. Jemand: Wie defekt kann Thermalmanagement maximal sein?
    SolarEdge: JA.

  13. #SolarPV charging for the #EV. It's rather plainly visible when the weather changed enough for me to switch the charger into solar-only mode 😀

Side note on this #SolarEdge charging setup: the power from the panels is enough to trigger the solar-only charging only for 3-4 hours each day, for roughly 20kWh added a day. That's because of the minimum charging requirement on this 3-phase charger.

That means that after a long drive, when the battery is close to empty, it takes 3 sunny days to refill. That doesn't mean the car is blocked, though - you can unplug, go do your things, plug it back in when you come back.

  14. It's that LG #RESU10H #battery and a #SolarEdge #StorEdge #inverter. Something is wrong with one of them and I'm working to decide what and if it can be repaired.

  15. Our latest #tutorial is a little bit different, compared to our usual OpenSource posts.

If you own a #SolarEdge inverter and use #ModbusTCP for your own monitoring or to grab #PV metrics (#HomeAssistant uses this, too), you might have run into some communication issues.

In our post we show how to manually restart the #Modbus service on a SolarEdge inverter.

  16. Comparing the data in #SolarEdge web dashboard and imported into #HomeAssistant ; there's some differences but data matches to 3% or so.

  17. Initial findings from the installation of #SolarEdge #EV Charger:
    - it is actually a KEBA KeContact P30 device
    - there's off-the-shelf accessories available (such as mounting posts) once you know the real name
    - the initial connection setup is *very* fiddly, until you get it to connect to Wi-Fi
    - seriously, do yourself a favour and connect it via Ethernet, you have to run a 32A rated 3 phase cable to it anyway
    - #PV power following works, however: minimum charging current is 6A per phase, so 4.14 kW on a 3-phase connection
    - there's an optional KeContact S10 phase-switcher device that allows the charger to switch between 3-phase and 1-phase operation modes, this allow 1-phase charging with power as low as 1.38 kW
    - I'm reasonably sure this can be installed afterwards too, if I find the 3-phase only operation not toggling on often enough with my PV system
    - once enabled, it integrates into the SolarEdge app nicely enough
    - I've also got it exporting data into #HomeAssistant, still need to verify data correctness

  18. My latest EPD sign code (epd.revk.uk) now has the countdown/up timer, and SNMP update features that the old code had.

Also, added a general MQTT JSON payload you can pull fields from as part of the widgets displayed. So simpler remote setting of fields used in the display.

    Planning to add #SolarEdge next

I have added $COUNTDOWN to Christmas logic now (or birthday, etc, any date in current/next year).

  19. Leute, schafft euch keinen #SolarEdge Wechselrichter an. Die Dinger laufen zwar einigermaßen, aber der Support der Firma ist absolut unterirdisch.

Ich warte nun seit über 4 Wochen darauf, dass der Inverter wieder mit dem Batteriespeicher spricht und diesen nutzt.

  20. @Heterokromia I use #SteVe as OCPP server (to control who is allowed to charge). To set the allowed charging current I use #evcc (According to the documentation #evcc also provides an OCPP endpoint, but I already had the SteVe before evcc.io). evcc communicates with #SolarEdge (inverter) via Modbus-TCP. Our #EV charge point is from #Keba

  21. #SolarEdge have told me they don't support "third party" (#EV charge points. Mine is an MG (Aurora) ChargeHub.

To control it, I _think_ I need an #OCPP server. Here's one: github.com/c-jimenez/open-ocpp

For that OCPP server to work, it will need to interrogate the SolarEdge control box to ask when it is "exporting", that is, has surplus energy that would be better stored in the car.

A problem: that #SolarEdge controller seems network-hardened, and rather determined to only send out only to SolarEdge servers, not to talk with anything on the local net at all.

Anyone out there done this already? I'd love a pointer or two.

  24. I'm really phishing for any documentation/specs of the protocol.
If someone has a successful setup and could spy the network to have an idea of what the protocol look like that could be a great start.

  25. So, we have a SolarEdge PV inverter at home and I am trying to gather data from it. So far I can connect it to our Wifi and open a TCP socket to it but that's it. Their app would not start on our phones (!), so I'm looking to see if I can directly communicate with it.

Anyone has successfully managed to connect to a SolarEdge SE5000H or any SolarEdge PV inverter?

  26. If I stand with one foot in the air and my finger on my nose, I have internet after last night's string of storms in Michigan. This is the first real test of our microgrid since it was installed a few years ago. Some thoughts:

  27. For those following my #solar debacle, we finally had a company willing to come out and have a look at it and when the tech opened this box outside, water poured out. You can see the water line on the cover and schmoo all over the wires and marrettes. That’s not dielectric grease.

Anyway, he cleaned it up, drilled some drain holes, and added some silicon to the conduits entering the box.

Getting them to quote us for critter guard, so far this company has been excellent.
