Sustainability is one of our 4 core values
For us, it means one thing: the best CO₂ is the one that is never emitted.
Only free, clean solar heat for your bakery, your school canteen, your farm, your community.
The impact is real. For each oven, every year:
60 m² of forest is protected
5 tons of carbon emissions are avoidedYou can start now. 🔆

Something I stumbled across that is making me feel better about the world:
The Flipflopi Project, which has built the first ever sailing dhow made from recycled plastic, which was at the time probably the biggest item made from recycled plastic at 9m long. Now they are almost done with the second boat, which is 24m long.
This project:
- pays locals to collect plastic waste from beaches, out of sensitive and CO2-storing mangrove forests and from households
- uses this waste and recycles it to make new materials for the boats
- experiments with using solar cookers to heat up plastic for processing
- is saving trees from having to be cut down for the boats
- works with traditional dhow builders, keeping this craft alive
- teaches students about the different stages of the project, how to sort, recycle, use plastic as well as weaving, carpentry (with wood and plastic), metalwork, traditional and high-tech machines and boat building
- sailed along the coast of east Africa and around Lake Victoria, connecting communities around the region
- raises awareness about plastic pollution, recycling, and spreads joyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mT2dQ8Og18

@shonin
I likes #permaculture, it suits my needs for perms and hair beading, raised #bedding and other #simplified/#joyous #harvesting.So many #useful #projects from #crop #recycling to #learning by #example. #Urban #farming. Indoor #hydroponics.
For example as our side streets in #London are cleared of central areas (aka side roads. We have #room for #polytunnels and other street #initiatives to feed our need for food, home and #solarcooking etc.
The better world is calling us from the future feature

4-ingredient #vegan #blueberry cobbler baked in my diy low cost #SolarOven with free sun energy! #SolarCooking
Ingredients:
3 cups fresh or frozen #berries
1/2 cup water, divided
Juice of half a small lemon (about 1 tablespoon)
3 tablespoons plant-based butter (any brand you like)
yellow or white cake mix, 1 and 1/4 cups, about half a box (any brand as long as it's vegan, I used Betty Crocker)This recipe is easy to double for a bigger pan! Use twice as much berries and a whole cake mix and whole lemon.
Instructions:
1. Mix the berries with the lemon juice and water in your baking dish (skip the lemon juice if berries are very tart)
2. Add 1/4 cup of cake mix to the berries, mix to combine
3. Dot the berries with butter (about 1 tablespoon)
4. In separate bowl, mix 1 cup cake mix with 1/4 cup water to make thick batter
5.Spoon the cake batter over the berries in the baking dish, dot with more butter (about 2 tablespoons)
6. Put the cover on it and place in the solar oven, bake until done (cake is cooked and berry juice is bubbling around the edge, thickened and translucent)
7. Serve warm or cold with ice cream or whipped cream if you want.

Another home run for #SolarCooking and #VeganBaking! #vegan chocolate #cake (recipe from most recent Joy of Cooking) baked in my homemade #diy low cost #SolarOven. So cool to bake a cake on a hot summer day without heating up the kitchen! (And it's free energy!)
I was a dingdong and forgot to take a picture before digging into it, so in the photo it has a big wedge already taken out. #BadFoodPhotography Oh well, it's proof that the middle was cooked, right?
Eaten in the lid of my cooking vessel (a stainless steel dog bowl) with vegan vanilla ice cream and fresh raspberries from the garden.

A 46-oz Steinfeld's pickle jar painted black with one line masked out for viewing the food through the side: a great bean pot in the #solaroven! Frijoles de la olla del sol. I could have used a traditional bean pot (olla de barro) as long as it's dark colored on the outside, but I don't have one, and I did have this.
Looks kinda weird but they turned out extremely tender with no split #beans or tough skins, and the broth is delicious (I brined the beans overnight first). Also no electricity, gas, or wood, and no stirring or checking needed. Dry beans are the cheapest high protein food (#vegan and otherwise!) , but few people cook them because it takes so long and uses a lot of energy. A great choice for #solarcooking to #feedtheworld. #diy #solar #cheapfood #solarpunk
