Yes, solar would be great for that, since hot sunny days are when you need the cooling most.
I've run across several interesting solar energy developments lately. One is solar-in-a-box; a farmer was using it to power his milking machines. He liked it because it didn't need much installation and he could rent it, or buy it and resell later if he didn't want it any more. It wasn't this particular company but I can't find the original posting:

I finally got my own solar panel ! It's small though, claims it's a "10w panel", but I showed my parents some kind of a proof of concept by charging my 18650 batteries with the xtar charger thingies and yeah it works that they started discussing bout solar energy.
Problem is that I'm really short on cash and they're not really funding my interests. They prolly find it stupid, but it's alright.
I kinda wonder if I had nice parents.
