If your solar punk story doesn't have "solar panel cleaning", well you're missing out (in a tropical climate, the stuff on it is jungle gunk. In a dry climate, it would be dust. In a place that gets cold, you might be cleaning snow off it).
Pro-tip: do not use harsh chemicals or sharp brushes on solar panels. To clean the ones pictured below, I used water, simple green, and a sponge. If you can't get close to your panels, you can use a sponge on the end of an extender. You can also use a pressure washer.
Jungle gunk is very hardy, so I had to get it wet first, then spray with the simple green, then scrub a lot, with several rinse/scrub cycles. But the result was totally worth it! My friend reported much better performance after cleaning! 🧹🧽🚿

I came into possession of some old solar panels so I made a solar-powered web server with a raspberry pi. It's been sitting in my garden for two months running continuously on sun/battery power.
Perhaps the continuous uptime is not surprising given the extreme weather in London this summer.
It's been running the nginx start page for most of that time, but I finally made a little zine site and hooked it up to the web.
Channeling Gilbert White, Bruno Latour, lowtechmagazine, whathaveyou. Not much content there as yet.

That’s just official figures too - they don’t account for all the panels going up on roofs, mines and farms.

Hey #solar power enthusiasts of #Australia and/or #Canberra, how big a system (ballpark) would you expect a household of 2 people to have? I've just been quoted $18-20k for a system with 9kW of panels and either a 9 or an 18kWh battery and that sounds like A Lot for a little townhouse.
My power bill spreadsheet says I use about 18kW/day of power during winter (11-12 in summer), and that's before I add the insulation I've also been quoted on so I expect that to drop dramatically.

It's been a long while since I gave an update on my #minnesota #solar ground mount array.
Lifetime production through today is 114 MWh. (1315 days) Winters: only heavy wet/icy snow sticks around long enough to be a generation impediment, and if I go roof-rake it off, the sun takes care of the rest in a day or two even at 0°f temperatures. Summer, it's been warm enough that I'm not maxing out the inverters - today for example they only touched 16kW out of the inverters rated 20kW in 91°f heat.

Yeah, even the chargers for individual cells like XTAR, SkyRC, etc. are from China.
There's XTAR chargers that can charge Li-ion, Ni-MH, Li-ion 1.5v and LFP cells as well. When I delved on batteries and stuff I really thought there's other brands of charger out there that ain't China, but nada. I was surprised at the time, like wtf ?
Americans, and especially Europeans, why aren't y'all making better stuffs about batteries and shit ? Do something ! Sheesh... Y'all are so focused on useless crap like age verification bullshit

Most of the inverters installed to date have been manufactured from China. China dominates that market.
The #Trump administration is literally trying to destroy the world so oil companies can keep increasing their profits.
