  6. I’ve written a new article about software anti-patterns.

I focused on why they happen and how to recognize common ones like God Object, Spaghetti Code, and tight coupling.

If you’ve ever felt like code is getting harder to change for no obvious reason, this might resonate 🧐

    I’d really appreciate any feedback.

  11. I’ve written a new article about software architecture. Focusing on why most decisions aren’t about finding the “best” solution, but about understanding trade-offs.

I tried to keep it practical and easy to follow, so it can help with real-world decision-making.

If you’re dealing with architecture, it might offer a slightly different perspective 🧐
    I’d really appreciate any feedback.

Why are we so obsessed with DX, when in reality it far from being the biggest multiplier of productivity?

  19. hot take on 3rd person pronouns in documentation:

    Don't use them.

Consider, that not all your audience is going to be a native English speaker, and there are languages that don't use 3rd person pronouns in general. Make your documentation as clear as possible by always spelling out who you are referring to, so even people who read your documentation with poor English skill or through an auto-translator, can still understand exactly what you are trying to say.

  20. Why My Rubber Duck Quit on Me: A Developer’s Tale - DEV Community

I don't have a rubber duck but have friends who do. I also know a team lead who 3D printed yellow ducks with his face on them, complete with glasses, and gave them out to his whole team 😃 so I'm definitely forwarding this article and post to them.

  22. So last night I woke up to go to the bathroom and I had a brand new and interesting idea for a sci-fi story. When I came back to bed, I figured that I would forget my idea, so I set a reminder. Then, I went back to sleep.

I woke up this morning with the idea still fresh in my mind. Apparently, I had set a heisenreminder.

    "Wut?"

A heisenreminder is a reminder that you don't need, once you set it. If you did not set your reminder, then you'd need it. However, once you set it, you remember yourself what you need to remember, and do not need the reminder.

    It is like a heisenbug.

    "A what?"

A heisenbug is a software bug that disappears or alters its behavior when you observe it. If you've never run into one, you're either not a software developer, or have not done it long enough.

  23. Software maintenance

The idea of maintaining software may seem odd, it is not like a car or a washing machine, there is nothing to “wear out”.
However, change is constant and I have just had a report that one of my Moodle plugins throws a big, ugly deprecation error with PHP 8.1. It should be easy to fix, but it shows that software does need maintenance.
Without support and maintenance software quickly becomes unusable.

  24. As #developers, our job is to deliver working software. With the shift to CI/CD and the move to the #cloud, the need to have the right feedback at the right time only increases. In this talk @maritvandijk will highlight some of the many ways that testing can help you to develop better software faster.

  25. My current philosophy on software quality:
    1. Things are never good enough.
    2. If you're lucky, you get to make most of the decisions about what kind of not good enough you get.
    3. If you're not actively creating an environment where you're lucky, the only thing you'll get to do is play catch-up.
