  3. Here are some numbers regarding the efficiency gains of using high-temperature solid oxide electrolyzers to make hydrogen, relative to the quality of the steam used to reduce electrical usage.

    - SOEC has a minimum advantage over PEM/ALK electrolyzers of 16% @ 100C
    - #SOEC is 42% more efficient at very high temperatures, and only works with +900C/1652F steam supply!! 900C is not geothermal nor waste heat!

  4. Syntholene wants to use Icelandic geothermal heat + @dynelectro solid oxide electrolyzer to make green hydrogen for cheap sustainable aviation fuel #SAF.
    Húsavík brine is 120C/248F, @syntholene might make 110C/230F steam, & is a far cry from the #SOEC 750C operating temperature!

    Alkalische Elektrolyse (AEL) kann zum Anlaufen schon ein paar Stunden brauchen, Hochtemperatur-Elektrolyse (SOEC) sogar Tage.

    Aber PEM-Elektrolyse (Proton Exchange Membrane) lässt sich tatsächlich in Minuten starten.

    Die Herstellung von grünem Wasserstoff mit überschüssigem Ökostrom vermag Erdgas zu ersetzen. Zumal es auch in Deutschland auch noch Lagerstätten mit weißem Wasserstoff gibt.

    Der #Fossilismus vergiftet nicht nur die #Mitwelt, er schadet auch der #Wirtschaft & finanziert unsere Feinde.

    Erneuerbare sind #Wohlstandsenergien #Heimatenergien #Friedensenergien

  8. @wpschill was ich mich da immer frage:
    ja, mir leuchtet ein, für wenige Nutzungsstunden zählt die Investitionssumme, deshalb Gasturbine, obwohl wenig effizient. Der Mehrpreis für mehr Wasserstoff ist billiger als eine effizientere Anlage, meist totes Kapital.
    Aber: Ist denn eine reversible #Elektrolyse/ #Brennstoffzelle nicht die bessere Wahl? Sind #SOEC / #SOFC so schweineteuer oder skalieren nicht, dass getrennte, ineffizientere Anlagen (in beide Richtungen) immer noch gewinnen? Danke!

  9. I would not call the FuelCell Energy $FCEL solid oxide electrolyzer #SOEC a "commercially proven electrolyzer", due to the lack of multiple (or even a single) commercial installations.↙️

    Indeed, the first FuelCell Energy #SOEC system demo is ongoing at Idaho National Lab #INL .

    Estonia’s @Elcogen_EU claims reversible solid oxide fuel cell #SOFC - electrolyzer #SOEC hydrogen tech

    IMO Elcogen's EU-backed systems aren't practical, as 333 of their tiny 3.3kW stacks are needed for a 1 MW-scale #fuelcell pilot.
    Think of the multiple failure points!
    Think of maintaining all those blowers and other moving parts!
