I have a new project in the back burner for Christmas 2026 which requires knitting (I haven't knit in 15+ years...), so I'm using sock yarn from my stash to practice!

Souvenir yarn alert!
This is from a shop called Wool For Ewe in #Aberdeen which I definitely recommend, they had a great range and the woman who I assume is the owner was very nice.
Cookston Crafts is a local indie dyer and this is the "Silver City" colourway specifically based on Aberdeen itself, so of course I had to get it.
It's a bit more saturated irl than in the photo, a mixture of greys (for the ever-present granite buildings) and turquoise (for the cool domed roof - I think it's the art gallery?).
It will, to nobody's surprise, be petted for a while and then eventually turn into socks.

Sun Glitter Shawl from Under The Olive Tree blocked. Now I only have to sew in ends. I used it to practice the new to me technique of Portuguese style knitting. Don't think I ever posted my "haul" from the yarn show I went to in August, so here we go! Not loads of stuff, but I'm not made of money you know 😅
Can you believe I found this pretty sock yarn in a bargain bin?!
I've also put together a very overdue recap video of the day, it should already be up at @michellemay or will be on YouTube later tonight if that's more your speed!
Now just to get rich so I can go to more yarn shows...that part of the plan is still a WIP.

Clearly the spirit of the #FinishOrFrogAlong has entered my body early, because this is probably the quickest I've "finished" a knitting project in years.
It's the #SunGlitterShawl pattern by Under the Olive Tree Knits, and I'm technically at the bind-off according to the pattern.
Problem is, I've got a decent whack of the yarn left, and the advice in the pattern is just to keep going with the garter edging until you're about to run out.
Can't decide if I like the garter edging and will do that, hate it and will replace it with something, or will just leave it as-is to avoid the edging getting too chonky.
Also, the amount I have left suggests this thing might work out a bit small. Pray for me in the blocking, whatever I decide 🤞

Apparently I'm all about yarn this week, but I've had a headache for three straight days so who can begrudge me a cheeky new start?
Nobody, that's who.
You might think, in context, that this is yarn bought at the yarn show last weekend. But actually I got it for Christmas and the fates waited until today to let me know what it wanted to be.
Colourway is "From My Cauldron To Yours" by Noodle Soup Yarns, who coincidentally was also at that yarn show. It is stunning!

With the #DiscworldMAL kicking off tomorrow I've been trying to decide on a yarn for my planned Eskarina Socks.
One one hand, the stitch pattern will look great in a nice mostly-solid colour, and you all know I love green. Also that's Rachel Coopey's yarn brand, ie the designer of the actual sock pattern, which would be nice and tidy 😁
On the other hand, this weird and wonderful Noodle Soup yarn has all the shades from the description of octarine, so I can't think of much more suitable for Esk.
Naturally then, I've caked them both up and will see how I feel tomorrow 😅

Weird knitting problems: My "leftover sock yarn" stash is so varied in colour that I"m not sure what to do with it, but I sure can't combine most of it into a sweater. Hrmph.
(I don't need any more of the things one can make with scraps of sock yarn. Best I can think of would be to knit a whole bunch of squares and seam them together for a blanket, but it would be a very small blanket... and I would probably^W certainly^W absolutely definitely lose interest before finishing it.)
Meanwhile, I have no good traveling knitting and lots of car-hours in my immediate future.
(ETA: I don't think it's enough for a blanket. It might be perfect for a wacky pair of Nether Garments.)
(ETA again: I'm really not looking for ideas or suggestions, just thinking out loud.)
