C. Wright Mills, 1959: "It is the political task of the social scientist—as of any liberal educator—continually to translate personal troubles into public issues, and public issues into the terms of their human meaning for a variety of individuals. It is his task to display in his work—and, as an educator, in his life as well—this kind of sociological imagination. And it is his purpose to cultivate such habits of mind among the men and women who are publicly exposed to him. To secure these ends is to secure reason and individuality, and to make these the predominant values of a democratic society."

@da_667 C. Wright Mills is worth everyone's time. Lucid prose, dense with insights. He named these social pathologies in the 1950s. "Crackpot realism." "Institutional irresponsibility."

I'm convening an #OpenAccess Educational Resource Group (#OER) at #OpenUniversity #PalestineSolidarity to collate, share, initiate, etc. educational mentorship, accreditation, etc. in #HigherEducation for #Gaza, & an end to the #diaspora for a long-term sustainable #FreePalestine.
Pls get in touch if you have resources, contacts, privilege, power, money, #BonneFoi and the fundamental #SociologicalImagination to #SpeakTruthToPower and hardwire the structures for an enduring #SocialJustice ✊🏽 🙏🏽 🇵🇸

I am so happy that from September my son will be studying #sociology & #Spanish at #GlasgowUniversity, where the wonderful LB now heads the dept. of sociology 😁
He's reading Mills' #SociologicalImagination & is fired up in a way I have never seen🔥
The #Covid years robbed him & his peers of so much and UK politicians are digging the hole of austerity & greed even deeper but now he & his lovely friends have found their energy, are bursting with creativity & hope, are so bright & perceptive ❤️💪🏽

Hi there ... Having migrated to sciences.social, I would like to introduce myself briefly.
I am a #sociologist at the University of #Lucerne. My focus is on #sociologicaltheory with a special faible for #Luhmann 's #systemstheory which I also applied in my book on #diplomacy.
I am currently #textmining the 18th Century Collections Online database (#ECCO)for a sociology of #conceptualchange.
Apart from that, I am interested in any exchange that stimulates the #sociologicalimagination.
