  1. Marketing people invented #Web3.0, web3, and even Web 4.0 and beyond, but if we take a step back and ask: has there been a distinct phase of the Web *after* the original TBL protocols and implementations (=Web 1.0) that is:

    1) public standard,
    2) widely used (#decentralized ),
    3) offers routine and flexible bi-directional interactions

There was never such a phase.
So-called #Web2.0 was built around centralizing platforms. *Emulating* a #socialgraph, not realizing true #socialnetwork

  2. "The deeper move is to refuse the property right at the root. The #socialgraph was never LinkedIn’s to own. #Identity was never Google’s to issue. These are not facts that belong to vendors. They are facts that belong to the people, the relationships, and the #groups they describe.
The architectural form of that refusal is a #protocolsubstrate. Hold the commons as commons, in #openprotocols, so the enclosure is impossible in the first place. Build the substrate so the fence cannot be built."

  3. #digitalEnclosures : "The things that should have been held as #commons#identity, the #socialgraph, group memberships, #collectivememory, trust relationships — had no #protocollayer to hold them. The platforms of the early 2000s emerged into that gap and enclosed them. Each one drew a fence around the part of our social life it mediated and claimed property rights to what was inside. The fences went up because there was nothing to stop them." @Identitywoman

  4. #Dataportability is the ability of a user to receive their personal data, by downloading it in a format that would be transferable to other platforms. This could include friends or connections, comments, photos, likes, and their social graph. [Like the] ability to move telephone n°s from one provider to another, which was mandated by the Telecommunications Act of 1966.
The #Utah #DigitalChoiceAct mandates portability practices for your personal data and #socialgraph.”

  5. "In #Utah, the #DigitalChoiceAct now takes effect on July 1st 2027: it requires #socialmedia companies to provide user-authorised #portability and #interoperability interfaces for the #personaldata and #socialgraph portions a user has selected, with consent for further interactions… That is number portability for social graphs—still subject to rulemaking. Because if you do not have it, the platform has every reason to squeeze you and none to actually improve itself."

  6. 20 years of #Twitter… it is crucial to understand its successes & failures.

"The original #ambientjournalism framework marked a departure from traditional, intentional consumption, like reading a newspaper or watching a TV news bulletin. The main features of ambient #journalism were immediacy, unexpected discoveries, and the blending of professional and #citizenjournalism enabled by Twitter. Its architecture, with a reverse-#chronologicalfeed, a 140-character limit, and a #socialgraph-based network structure, supported what #AxelBruns called #produsage, where publics act as both users and producers of information. In this ambient environment, retweeting was not just an engagement metric but a #curatorialact of journalism. This reflects a broader shift in digital journalism research toward the news ecosystem and landscape, including ambient and networked forms of journalism emerging from #socialmedia practices."

  7. #ThoughtProvoker 🤔

The fun of #SX is that you don't have to learn it, nor do you have to get it taught to you.

Like chess you should #experience it to gain #experience, and you do that by meeting other #people and #practice it. By #SocialExperience with your friends and peers in the chess world #SocialGraph. Weaving #SocialFabric where you can be playful, creative and do experiments, engage in #challenges. This keeps one intrinsically #motivated to stay into the #game. Learn more. Enter a virtuous ⭕ circle of rewarding #exercises.

And perhaps one day. Suddenly and unexpected, #opportunity finds you to play against #MagnusCarlsen. And WIN!

The important thing is: You need not have any *expectation* for that. And most people shouldn't, as it is boils down to 'hanging yourself up to a Vision' if you simply don't possess the 'chess genius gene'. Most people don't.

However you can still #Dream about beating Magnus one day to have fun at every level of your progression path to mastery.

  8. #linkedIn vs. #mastodon

At LinkedIn I need to take care very much on what to communicate, even it is just a like. I do strictly just professional things there. Never any political opinions. My contacts are national and international. Nearly all of my contacts are people I once meet in real life personally.

At Mastodon I can be also the nerd type of my personality. I can try out things. I can involve myself in discussions of topics that I should not communicate always openly.

  9. #threads vs. #mastodon

Threads is doomscrolling. Funny stuff sometimes, but at the end exhausting.

Mastodon can be boring. But If you find a nice rabbithole you can learn things and get new point of views.

  10. I just made my personal #sigint using my #mastodon posts by using #Google #Gemini Pro.
    It is very accurate.
It does not (yet?) expose things of myself that I don't want to communicate.

  11. I was at an event last night and some people spoke about how without Fb they wouldn't have been able to reconnect with their school friends.
The of the is so important to growth.

I am wondering how the could incorporate that in order to get more users.

  13. now that people are leaving TikTok and losing their follower count:

social media is a reputation bank. your reputation accrues over time, and you reap the benefits. Except, currently banks DGAF about your savings.

before internet, reputation was a local currency. now, it's a global one. it needs rules and regulations.

if we stop deriding influencers, we can see they need some unionizing, since reputation banks are abusing their position.

I think the #AI bots are fed and 'know' the entire #API of most #fedi apps, and just walk out each and every pathway of our #SocialGraph, in search for stuff to scrape.

AI data hunger comes on top of #SurveillanceCapitalism data-is-the-new-oil exploitation of personal information, and our 🥧 #PII is attractively served in this largely wholly unprotected #fediverse of ours.

  15. Why is #CommunityMarketing Becoming Relevant?

#Loneliness 🧑‍💻 People are feeling #lonely, spending time alone in front of #screens and missing out on real #socialconnections.

#Noncommittal 🙅 Many people today no longer want to make a firm #commitment.

    #ContentGraph vs #SocialGraph 🙋 Discovering common interests through #sharedcontent makes #communities relevant.

#InfluencerSaturation 🤷 The credibility of #influencermarketing is declining.

  16. #AlgorithmicTakeover: "…the friends-and-family era of the “#socialgraph” is over, having been replaced with what Meta grimly calls “#unconnectedcontent”—posts from accounts that you may or may not follow, chosen for you by a recommendation #algorithm.
…a natural byproduct of people choosing to share fewer posts of their own, forcing companies like #Meta to find alternatives. “Longtime users’ friend lists have … become an often-outdated archive of people they once knew."

Offenheit uvm.

  18. #OpenAI introduced #apps inside #ChatGPT, allowing users to tag other services and accomplish tasks directly within the chatbot. This #platformplay aims to make ChatGPT more useful and powerful, similar to #Facebook’s #socialgraph. However, concerns arise about #dataprivacy and the potential for economic incentives to warp the user experience. platformer.news/openai-dev-day #tech #media #news

  21. "#Bounce adds an additional layer to [Bsky's #credibleexit]: you can now transfer your account to another protocol altogether.
In this way, the ability to use Bounce to migrate your #socialgraph from Bluesky to #Mastodon actually is a benefit to #Bluesky: it further cements their claim of providing a credible exit. This lowers the barriers for people who are unsure about trying out Bluesky, there is now a way back."

  22. But right now, our #SocialGraph is fractured. Always has been. No one corporation or entity can connect all the data points we leave scattered across the web. It would take an unprecedented amount of coordination and relinquishing of power.

Over the years many have tried to unify our social graphs with protocols and APIs. Many have failed.

  25. Someone in the company I work for is in the offical #linkedin list of the top influencers . He has really a lot of followers and posts every day about one of the hottest topics in the IT industry.

I talked with him shortly one year ago personally about the topic.
He is a great seller, but I am quite sure he never did anything himself alone, based in his own ideas. He just takes things and ideas from others, but his followers think he is a real IT guru.

  26. Frustration with centralised social media is not new;

"Unfortunately, there doesn't exist a single social graph (or even multiple which interoperate) that's comprehensive and decentralized. Rather, there exists hundreds of disperse social graphs, most of dubious quality and many of them walled gardens."

  28. @vees The term #YASNS "Yet Another Social Network Service" came along (briefly) about then when we started flocking from one network to another, then another. Migration was #socialgraph lossy. But new places...
