I was invited to join my friend and her family for a meal at #SixByNico. She had been gifted a generous voucher for her upcoming significant birthday by a well-off, not-too-friendly cousin.
It comes time to pay, and an embarrassed waitress returns, saying voucher is a week out of date, but they have accepted it anyway
Detective work ensued: purchase date was just before the cousin's birthday last year, so clearly regifted.
To tell her or not..? 😅

I got rid of #Facebook and #Instagram a while ago. It does feel great not having those time sucks in your life. I, also, tried doing away with #WhatsApp, but for all the family members and friends being there, I had to get back. I tried convincing folks to come on over to @signalapp, but in vain... Ugh!

So, recommend some good ways to convince folks of all the crappy things that company does and get them off... All ideas welcomed!

We know that when refreshing an app we might get some likes that will give us a quick rush of dopamine. This rush is exactly what keeps us scrolling down.

Research shows that social media is intentionally designed to trigger addictive behaviors.

"Never before have a handful of tech designers had such control over the way billions of us think, act and live our lives"

I watched The Social Dilemma on Netflix.

Eye opener. In short:
1. social media platforms needed to monetize.
2. So they needed ads to be more efficient
3. The smartest minds and the most powerful computers, using the biggest data centers and the latest neuroscience came up with ways to "drive up engagement"...
4. In other words, get us all addicted by carefully manipulating feeds and notifications.
5. This create a mental health crisis.

Ma in #socialdilemma c'e' un motivo per cui l'unico merdaio mai nominato e' Netflix, quando persino Gmail e' accusata di creare dipendenza? Eppure fanno proprio come tutti gli altri fa profilazione, suggerisce il prossimo film ecc. per aumentare il tempo sulla piattaforma.

Qualche giorno fa leggevo un intervista al CEO di Netflix:

I was pretty early onto the internet and talking to people
through it changed my life, helped form most of my
friendships, and made my world better.

So much so I really expected the internet to make the
world saner and wiser and more tolerant and progressive
as everyone got online.

But that didn't happen. Instead it seems to be driving
people paranoid, dividing society, and causing a ruckus.

I have seen so so many documentaries that gave me wonderful insights. But what "Social Dilemma" did to Me is it did send thrills through my spine for simply the dramatic style of story telling techniques used in this documentary, unlike other similar shows like "Facebook Dilemma" or "The Great Hack" or "Nothing to Hide" or "Secret America" or many many other documentries I have watched over the years, which are more like narration of facts based. Must watch. #SocialDilemma.
