Why is #SocialBookmarking mostly always flat lists, persisted as rows in most basic datastores?

Instead why aren't they 😋 juicy metadata-hung 🍒 nuggets, sparkling in rich semantic tapestries, discovered in lush forests of #SocialWeb, where insights and knowledge can be gleaned? Fruits that lure us to explore, be more connected to others.

Feeling nostalgic for the del.icio.us days of turn of the century #SocialBookmarking, I signed-up for a free @raindropio account. I'm feeling much better about it now that I notice @taylorjadin bookmarks there too!

I am not sure if @postmarks is still maintained, but it is a pretty cool #socialbookmarking site for the #fediverse.

@matthiasott’s latest “Own Your Web” has me wondering about building a little app to simulate #SocialBookmarking based on feeding in #RSS feeds from #linklogs. Very #IndieWeb.

It's likely that #ai generated content will litter the web and make search engines increasingly useless to navigate a sea of SEO-optimized garbage. In fact, it's already happening.

So what's the answer? There needs to be a revival of human-powered #curation (remember #socialbookmarking ?) where each of us hand-picks and shares valuable links, and each of us follows only those we trust to do the same.

Does anyone know what’s happening with diigo.com ? Sign up seems broken, their blog hasn’t been updated since 2018, and contact via email / twitter is not responding. Any ideas? #socialbookmarking

In my search for a #Pinboard alternative I found #Linkding, and it looks *almost* exactly what I was looking for.

It's only semi-social (closed/friends-only), could need an option for public access, and various tweaks here and there – but it’s very hackable (#Django, #Python, #svelte, #SQLite)

Y'know what's really gone out of fashion? #Socialbookmarking. Remember #delicious and #Diigo? I talk to younger tech users who don't know what those were or why you'd ever want to use them.

I found shared Diigo lists very useful for classroom weblinks, annotation, and discussion around sites. I even follow the bookmarks of other #designers via #RSS.

Anyone still use these? Are there modern alternatives that respect #privacy more effectively? Why did you stop and would you go back?

Here’s a half-baked idea that many have probably thought before but I’ll share anyways:
A federated tool that allows you to “like” websites and then have that “like” linked to an account that pays that site a #micropayment out of a fixed “like budget.”
You’d also get a discovery tool as well, viewable through the #Fediverse, in addition to a bookmark tool.
Essentially #socialbookmarking with #micropayments.
Does this exist?
