Instead of an interesting #ion channel paper, I these days strongly recommend to have a look at Hannah Arendt's book "The Origins of Totalitarianism". Much will remind you of current events. Keep watchful and defend democracy. I am from Germany, we learn a lot in history classes about our past, but people tend to forget how fast it came over our country...
It is also interesting to look out for the phrase "Gleichschaltung", which describes how (mass) media and civic services were all put in line with ideology to invade every part of personal life. -
