  1. I never understood the cult of John Smith, who died 32 years ago.

He was decent & honest, a welcome contrast to most at the top of politics. But he was a cautious, small-c conservative with no inclination to reverse the neoliberalism which had already wrecked millions of lives.

Smith's legacy has the advantage of an early death: his promise was never tested. But I see nothing in his politics to justify hope that he would have restored the #socialdemocracy that Labour abandoned in 1976.

  2. Doug Cameron’s questions are the ones I have been asking myself (and the Party — though there were no answer from them) for two years or more. It’s incomprehensible to me why a supposedly left-wing Parliamentary Caucus with a whopping majority, is so… well, center-right. And that was why I cancelled my Party membership this year.

“…Cameron’s criticism does highlight one of the defining features of the Albanese government. Labor’s historically activist wing has arguably never held so much power to shape the country; a prime minister ensconced in the Lodge, surrounded by a praetorian guard of factional allies and a majority left caucus. Labor’s own constitution describes it as a democratic socialist party. So why is it so centrist?”

  3. Guys.

    We hate #America.

Now, before you lose your heads, it's not personal.

We don’t hate #Americans—just the system. We feel for Americans, who’ve been misled.

You don’t live in a #democracy; you live in a #kleptocracy that exploits it. Nothing is free, and freedom comes at a growing cost.

Every fight leaves you with less.

Your battle isn’t with the world—it’s with your own way of life.

The answer? #SocialDemocracy—you make the rules.

Try it, you might like it.

  4. This is a headline which perhaps marks the start of a shift away from populous representation (aka #fascist) in western democracies. I sincerely hope so.

“Victor Orbán concedes defeat in Hungary election.”

I’m also glad that #Orban has not contested the preliminary results of the elelection (unlike #tRump is very much likely to do in November), ans I congratulate the #Hungarian people on their win for the #EU and #SocialDemocracy.

  5. Dear world,

Stop acting the bollox by voting for centre parties.
They a full of shit and are obligated by their very nature to appease everyone so in the end, nothing gets done.

If you truly want to live a life where the essential things are covered like health care, child care, universal basic income, and a social environment where people are not judgemental, vote #socialdemocracy. Find a local party or organisation that believes in social democracy and join them.

The left will set you free.

  6. 1/8 🧵
While the headlines often focus on the friction of politics, there is a "Red Thread" of stability running through Europe right now. In 2026, Social Democratic leaders are proving that you can balance a strong economy with a deep commitment to social justice.
Here is how the achievements of these leaders have placed the EU in such a strong position. 🇪🇺🌹

"On her first day in Britain, Friede encounters a country still shaped by war, scarcity, and the uneasy beginnings of something new, a social democratic Britain.
Before you is another chapter from The Green & Pleasant Land, which Harry Leslie Smith was working on at the time of his death."

  8. ‘for every percentage point increase in the Gini coefficient of income inequality there was a roughly identical increase in support for far-right parties. Measures introduced by mainstream parties in government, such as tightening eligibility and rendering harsher conditions for welfare benefits, had fuelled ‘distrust and disenchantment’ amid increasing precarity, weaker unions and a declining labour share in economic output’

  9. Today, my membership cancellation has been processed by the NSW Branch of the #Labor Party (#NSWLabor). It no longer represents me, nor many thousands of others I’m sure, and has used up all the loyalty and trust I once had invested in it.

From now on my membership fees and any donation I might have made to the Party will be directed elsewhere (not a political party), to where I think will help #Australia get back on track to #SocialDemocracy where the benefits equally flow to all Australians and not just the #ChoosenFew. As for my vote, it will have to earn it back.

There is no getting away from #politics nor our civic duty to make sound political choices for all of us living, on this stollen land, on the great #SouthernLand.

  10. Two key declarations in the neoliberal surge of the eighties were made my Thatcher and Reagan

In '86 Reagan described the 9 most 'terrifying' words in the English language as "I'm from the government and I'm here to help"

I remember this being reported in Rolling Stone like it was some kind of counter-culture platitude, unworthy of serious analysis or consideration

In '87 Thatcher said "There is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are families"

  11. @sigismundninja The nordic social democrats are not left. They are right wing. They never rejected neoliberalism and today they have the same politics as the conservatives. Racist and in favour of the rich. Not populist and not TAN-left. Not left at all. #socialdemocracy. #politics #eupol #ukpo

  12. The only successful western social democratic parties are from within the Nordic countries. Why is that? Because of culture, tradition and relatively strong unions? Or because they've rejected neoliberalism before it was too late? Or because they've become more populist or TAN-left?

  13. Or as the famous Soviet era joke goes, “In capitalism, man oppresses man. In communism, it’s the other way around.” I’m convinced we need and deserve something better. And that for all its very real flaws, #Nordic #SocialDemocracy is the least worst prototype and basis ever tested so far.

  14. No one individual needs this criminal amount of money. Every single person on this planet deserves to be happy, healthy, and debt free. We don't vote for our political parties if they are not committed to taxing the hell out of them. 90% tax or more.

  15. The left which isn't able to embrace materialism and the interests of the domestic working class, will never be able to defeat right wing populists or fascists. Stick to the #liberalism of last season and your movement will die. I.e. advocating for immigration that increases economic pressure on the domestic working class, will kill your movement. Idealism can only exist where there is perceived abundance.
