As a belated Advent-esque adventure this year, I got my spouse and I an Advent box from Sobr Market, plus a bunch of different sparkling waters.
So far we've had a hazy IPA from Athletic Brewing that was delightful and the first well-balanced IPA I've ever had. And my spouse made us a cocktail out of Ritual rum and lime/cardamom sparkling water, which was as good a cocktail as anything I've had in a bar.
So far so good!

Leaving drinks all done. Home briefly, then round to the boy's house to feed his cats while he's away, a load of laundry on, and in bed by half 11
Successful day and a sensible bedtime
Contrast with past me, who would still be drinking for the next few hours, spending a small fortune, sleeping all morning tomorrow and being hungover for the rest of the day

I've just noticed that I've started to think of me when I used to drink as a separate person from myself nowNot just me at a different time, but a whole other life
I don't know when, but somewhere along the way 'Mike who isn't drinking' became 'Mike who doesn't drink'. Like it's become part of my identity somehow
And another new job thing - nobody at work has really noticed because work drinking culture has changed so much since COVID, so a lot of people will still - and will always - think of me as that other guy. Always at the bar, always the last one still out at the end of the night, always the one who knows where there's somewhere still serving
In this new job I'll meet people as Mike, who runs marathons and does night classes and doesn't drink
He's not sarcastic, and not sweary, and not hungover, and he's clean and well slept
I've loved getting to know this guy, and I can't wait to properly introduce him to people

One thing I really noticed on this trip is how much more holiday you get for how much less money when you're #sober
You're awake for the mornings, you spend the afternoons outdoors instead of in pubs, you remember the evenings, and you have more and better food and still have money left at the end
