#SO309 concluded, we completed a record number of dives ROV MARUM SQUID, surveyed cold water corals at three sites and collected great samples with a tool one of my amazing colleagues created. In his sampler we can keep several samples in separate, transparent containers that keep liquids in. Instead of picking up one thing, we bring back a small aquarium with an entire little world of ocean critters that underwent comparatively little stress. And it is really easy to use for us pilots as well!

No sea creature sightings for me today, mostly because I was glued in front of a screen, checking everything is set up correctly, making sure ship sensor data is coming in (ship heading, acoustic positioning systems, …), and reference frames and maps make sense (we are currently in UTM 59S), communicating with the team that cleans up bathymetry data over night so in the morning of a dive we have a shiny new map with everything coloured and marked how it works best for ROV operation, … #SO309
