  1. After the last big snow of the year I experimented with a bit of in-camera #DoubleExposure photography. I took two photos of snow textures and ended up just making a bit more complex of a texture that I'm not sure anyone would suspect was made using a double exposure.

  2. Looking back at #winter, a #GreyHeron stands puffed up above a line of snow.
Another frame catches the same #bird in soft flakes and cold water.
At #Westerpark in #Amsterdam, the mood was quiet, sharp, and slightly unforgiving.

  3. With many low contrast and/or saturation winter scenes, I enjoy playing around with making things grayscale, negative, increasing contrast, rotating, applying a solarize filter, etc. It can help find the #MagicInTheMundane. Here are some photos from this winter that I have edited using those methods.

  4. On a four mile hike yesterday with my best buds, I did some standard #NaturePhotography, but I also brought an ND400 filter for my XF55-200mm lens and did some #ICM photography. It wouldn't have worked well in that bright of light without that to darken things to allow for the one second exposures. Most didn't turn out well, but there were some keepers.

  5. A couple of weeks ago I went on a bike ride for an errand in town, and since I had to use studded tires just to bike along the regional trail, I took a side trip out onto Lake Minnetonka. It was quite cold, but I sacrificed some finger comfort to get a few cool shots with my cellphone. The snowdrifts had some of the wildest windswept forms in them I have ever seen. I had a fun little adventure biking around Big Island as well.

  6. There was light of just the right angle to highlight the formations and patterns in the snow on my cold walk today. I love the blue shadows and sculptural quality of windswept snow when the light is low angle like that. It has been too cold for me to want to bring the fancy camera out for a while now, but thankfully the phone camera image quality is usually good enough for a social media post.
