  1. Hey friends. My wife had to work today, so I decided to go for one of the very famous #mountains here (due to the fantastic scenery around). Just wanted to share some quick snaps with you.

It's really been a great day. Windy on the summit but nothing a good equipment can't beat 😉

    That's some Christmas holidays!! 😉 #merrychristmas

  2. Think it might be time to wrap up this thread. Need to get my head out of the blue for a little while. So I'm returning to where it began, and that boat shed. Now you get to see the colours on display that day :)

Thanks to everyone who dropped a comment along the way, or liked and shared. Met some nice peeps this week or two!

  3. The first time I saw this scene I nearly drove the car off the road. I wasn't expecting it. Such a remarkable reveal, as is typical of Senja and Tromso. One moment there's nothing but a wall of snow on either side of the road, the next there's a magical fjord or a cabin by the river, or a herd of reindeer or a fishing fleet. Magical place.

  4. That day we got snow falling pretty much from dawn to dusk but paused for a brief half hour and we stepped out to capture a more subtle impression of the landscape. I love the scale of softness in winter, the way snow hides all the imperfections. It even dampens the noise. There's no silence quite like a world layered in fresh snow.

  5. Can feel the moody side kicking in. The way sunset can fall under the weight of a storm.

This photo was taken in the days before the planet was transformed by covid. We were up in the Arctic, a million miles from the rest of the world. I wanted this moment to last forever.

  6. I remember the first time we descended into this fjord and saw the island and all the little homes packed onto it and a fleet of fishing boats and there's even a cute little cafe in town for a nice hot chocolate.

I could barely believe it was real.

Little gems like this are hidden all over Norway. Winter time makes them all the more special :)

  7. When the LUMIX S1R came out I was pretty excited. 47MP in normal mode, and 187MP using pixel shift. Truth is it's exceedingly rare that I need more than 20MP and mostly these days I use the LUMIX S5 instead. It's smaller and lighter and still does 96MP with pixel shift, so that's not bad.

I'm getting ready to head back in a few weeks, and thinking about what camera to pack. Hmmmm.

  8. Too often with photography we're looking for grandeur. We want the big scene or the perfect shot. I notice this when travelling with camera club folks in particular.

It's the little moments that make photography for me, the imperfect pieces that reveal the texture of a place. Life isn't perfect, and neither is photography.

I think of my style as 'editorial'. I collect pieces of a story. Lots of pieces.
