I finally did it! I FINALLY MADE MY Hikari no go vid!
At the beginning of the year my computer crashed, and I could not vid, but I found and almost lost the perfect song for my vid!
It was stressful!
But I used that desire to reinstall my operating system, and one day later, I finally finished it! I even typed in captions by hand!I might even link my Hikaru no go Primer. Hurray!
#fanvid #fanedit #hikarunogo #anime #snowflakechallenge2025 I made a thing. -

Joy comes in lots of forms. Did something make you giggle or crack a smile when you didn’t expect to? Or feel surprisingly content, satisfied, pleased, glad, or warm? The moment can be quiet, loud, brief, big — maybe it lasted a second, maybe it spanned months. Maybe it was something you saw or heard or read, or something you or somebody did.
There’s no right or wrong answer; only your answer! ;D

CW: ❄️ Snowflake challenge #10: Firsts. Long rambling reminiscing about MapleStory. Azn don't raisin.
The first downloadable MMO I remember playing was Maplestory. It was free, lots of other azn kids were playing it in school, and it was in open Beta! It was also where I first used the name "tempural", a word I got from Jhonen Vasquez's DVD commentary for Invader Zim lmao. Something about "temporal doom" and him turning that into "tempural". My tempural character was a warrior, or crossbowman, both the worst slowest characters in the game at the time.
I also remember having a character named "StBY", but I don't remember what that means. Also had a character named "saucyyy" that was the first time I used one of my OCs as a game avatar. Saucy was my not-daveMustaine OC lmao.
I remember one of the first online people I talked to being someone with a username like "gianni". They typed with punctuation and capitalized the beginning of their sentences, which was funny to me as a kid. My middle school friend and I would hang out with some other school friends, as well as with this guy we found online in the pet park, or in the slime tree north of Ellinia. I would try not to power level to 30 by myself while everyone else was asleep. But the warrior class sucked so you would always be behind in levels compared to your friends.
Now it's bizarre that everyone I currently talk to online is someone I met online! While all the IRL people I know aren't on any of the sites I'm on 😺
I still have a lot of love for Maplestory's pixel art and music in my heart. The monsters are super cute. I made a orange mushroom plushie in middle school home ec cuz of Maplestory... Wonder if my parents threw that out.

❄ #snowflakechallenge2025 #7: Wishlist!
1. I am a hungry hungry buttslut for art, fic, and other creations with my characters. 🙏🥺 Here's a gallery with some stuff I've gotten.
2. I am a hungry hungry anal masochist for comments 😼 I think the sorta comment I'd like right now is a quote I can put in the work description, like "This shit made me watch wrestling and now I'm gay" - t. John Cena.
https://scumsuck.com/guestbook
3. I am very demure and modest when it comes to anon messages 💅 One of the things I miss most about the cesspool of tumblr, is getting enough questions about my silly scoutspy characterizations to create, well, my own characters out of them! Anons that stroke my shaft are a great way to get me to churn my brain and make something creative like the 300 scsp doodles of or 500 headcanon posts of 2018, as opposed to sending me something blunt like "draw linguini's feet".
https://tempural.tumblr.com/ask
4. Forbidden fourth wish: I wish that one day someone could find scans of that YinYang monster x Vincent Valentine FF7 doujinshi that was my favorite as a wee lad!
It was called "Meteo Daiou" by New Technical Punk-FF (Isuzu Suzuki).
The last evidence of existence is on this archived Sodasexy page.My life is a repeating circle. Even the scanner says this is GROSS and put it in their squick section. But Maggie age 8 liked it. Too much! Goth dude getting somno-bung by a hungry monster informed the rest of my yaoi career.
Most of the things I want are non-tangible items :P Maybe I'll make a /wishlist page to include some physical things like books or 300 wooden pallets for our fence in progress. 👍

#snowflakeChallenge2025 #6: favorite original canon
Andrew Lloyd Weber's "Phantom of the Opera" musical soundtrack is evergreen to me. I listened to it over and over again while drawing, before I knew anything about the musical or movie. The story playing in audio form was so vivid already. It was melodramatic, it was wonderfully cheesy, and I LOVE the musical layers of vocal harmonies and entertaining melodies. I'm really glad that the soundtrack was a bonding thing for me to share with Shane, and we could get into pathetic incel goth bitches together.
Finally watching vids of the musical and the 2004 movie in full, was very satisfying. It made me appreciate the music even more, and I still to this day just pop the soundtrack on while doing everything from cooking to cleaning to drawing.
I like the recorded stage version very much, and it was my introduction. But I have to admit I REALLY like the 2004 movie version with Gerard Butler because he has this pleading crying shitting patheticness in his voice, that contrasts with his chad deepness, that makes me very happy. Even if trained musicians say that the cast was not technically apt for opera, their voices are great to my untrained peasant ear for conveying emotion. It's like, some people may prefer more cleaner, technically trained artists. I have a soft spot for sketchier emotions and characters.I especially like "All I Ask Of You". It hits me in my nerd spot because Devin Townsend has a song called Christeen that riffs off the chorus and I heard Devy's version first. (I also just learned from Devin's autobiography that one of his inspirational transcendental music experiences was listening to "Music of the Night" as a kid, so I love that my favs are all holding hands!) And I love the character contrasts in the lyrics and singing styles. Peak pathetic daddy-incel in cuck chair watching helplessly as his grooming victim rides off happy with her childhood friend.
I wouldn't say that I create fanwork directly for Phantom Of The Opera, or that I'm a shipper, but the music, characters, and relationships have influenced my art in so many ways that I hope are obvious!

#snowflakeChallenge2025 #5 : how has fandom improved your life?
I met my some of my closest friends through bonding over music ("nice 80s band shirt 😼"). My life is infinitely better because I met my lovely manwife through boomer rock yaoi RPF, and bonded over boomer rock yaoi OCs. Nothing like writing 10k word count letters to each other over deviantArt AND snail mail 😼
Cherished memories? Incredibly specific "jokes" that only 2 people will understand or find funny, like David Elf-ellefson and Santa Dave, or Poison running through my veins, or calling a specific blonde singer "Long Legs". This is ADHD incarnate.
It's easy to do chores together when we can sing along to the same Alice Cooper album for the 5000th time, listen to Paul Stanley lisp through his audiobook, talk shit about Nikki Sixx's autobio, or get jumpscared by Michael Jackson "man in the mirror" in the shower. Music might really be my One True Fandom, even if I only really tism talk about it to one person. 🙈

CW: Snowflake Challenge #3: changed fannish opinion. Mine? Appreciating the term "yaoi". This 3am ramble will discuss "problematic" themes in art, sexism and racism/xenophobia.
I used to be one of those annoying "my glorious gay porn, their bad yaoi for GIRLS" people when I was an underage tf2channer. So I know exactly how those people think, and hope they grow out of it by the time they're 17.
It comes from:
1. Trying to impress your peers by rejecting nerdy weebery, like saying that western cartoons are better than anime (spoilers: its all cartoons).
2. Trying to present more masculine (regardless of transness or gender identity) by rejecting femininity as a safety mechanism. (We live in a Joker society)
3. Trying to make fun of other people's interests before they can make fun of your "cringe" interests. Spoilers, it's all gay cartoon porn and anyone who's not a internet addled nerd thinks its weird.
The funniest thing about the modern iteration of 'yaoi is bad gay porn', is that in Ye Olde Days, yaoi was the "bad gay porn" because it wasn't problematic enough to be cool! While now it's 'real m/m is good representation, yaoi is problematic"
The stereotype used to be that yaoi was too girly and full of flowery nonsense and melodramatic emotions and kissing. While the REAL GAY PORN FOR REAL GAY MEN full of snuff and age gap daddy kink and wolf rape. Gengoroh Tagame comics were popular "shock art" amongst the internet crowd back then ya see.
In [current year] it's more obviously xenophobic. Japanese terms like BL and yaoi are the "bad terms" used by "bad people". Meanwhile English language queer shows and books are localized as BL in Japan lololol.
It's never too late to embrace that everything and nothing is dank yaoi! I embrace the word "yaoi" now rather than any other label, because:
1. I like that it makes ignorant people mad.
2. It is nostalgic and reminds me of my youth reading final fantasy doujin scanlations.
3. I like the history of the term being applied to "comics with no point or plot" (from the perspective of professional editors) speaks to me. Lowbrow comics about dudes kissin'. I don't care if you can't find a deep message or world building. I have fun thinkin it up and making it.
4. I like this history of the term being used for "self-indulgent doujinshi" from the 70's-80's. Doesn't necessarily only apply to pornographic comics. And I like those decades in art 😼
5. I like to be oppositionally defiant and challenge people who have preconceived notions that all Asian artists draw in a certain art style, by using an Asian term. I know my art doesn't scream ORIENTAL to most people lmao, I got old teachers that told me that I should draw more "ethnically" to appeal to illustration/animation standards for non white artists. But the truth is I am very inspired by azn comics like Old Master Q and Dragon Ball and all those doujinshi I read as a kid, even if other people can't see it. #snowflakeChallenge2025

Seems like we all spend a considerable chunk of our fandom time trying to convince loved ones, friends and total randos alike that our blorbo is in fact the best. This can take shape of anything from watch parties/read-alongs to capslock squee in DMs to relentless gifsets to PhD dissertations.
For examples of fandom primers try looking at this fest:
https://archiveofourown.org/collections/Meta_Manifesto_2022and scan the main Dreamwidth post for this year's challengers:
https://snowflake-challenge.dreamwidth.org/78324.html -
One of my favourites is the "fandom manifesto" or "fandom primer," wherein one writes up an outline of what their blorbo is, why it's great, and links to where one can find more (with more or less detail and formality, depending on the venue).
Challenge 8
In your own space, write a promo, manifesto or primer for a beloved character, relationship or fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

CW: Snowflake Challenge #2: Fannish Origin Story. Long post, rambling. Talkin' bout reading cartoon porn as a kid.
🐣 The Beginning
The first "fannish" thing I can remember doing is live action roleplaying Final Fantasy IV characters with my neighbor. We were still playing SNES games when everyone else was on the ps2 and xbox grind... She was Rosa so she could date the main character Cecil. And I was Rydia, and I had to date Kain. Which I was fine with cuz Rydia's cute and Kain was cool cuz he had dark dragon armor and shared a name with Kane my favorite wrestler.
(Looking back, Rydia/Kain is kind of an insane age gap ship (she starts as 7 and time skips to a vague adult age later, while Kain is always an adult) that SOMEONE could do something with. I think in canon Rydia wants to eff Edge though (not to be confused with COPE))
I developed an interest in Final Fantasy, emulating some of the other 2D games, buying FF7 for my cousin's ps1 for ME to play, and playing FF8 at my mom's friend's daughter's place. I never finished FF8 cuz it crashed and wiped all the memory at the end of the first disc lmao. As a wee lad, I looked up pornographic doujin for FF7 specifically, on a site called SoDaSexy. I was looking for Vincent Valentine doujin. I wasn't that interested in Cloud x Sephiroth, and I didn't feel anything for Cid x Vincent or Sephiroth x Vincent, but I acknowledged that I was looking for yaoi. There was a monster x Vincent Valentine doujin that drew my attention though!
I think that's where my strange snake fujo ways come from - I have an uke fave, but not always a favorite ship with a specific character. Sometimes you just want to rotate your fave in the torture cube. Mob x Fave, Fave in Distress, and Fave Zerkin' It are often my favorite flavor of work to look at. But it's hard to explain in words to people who prefer a ships to faves.
I also remember reading a non explicit Yuffie x Vincent fic on ff.net that caught my attention. One of my original Gorl Scout x Squidward ships? Sounds funny nowadays to say that a het ship was more interesting to me than most of the yaoi LOL. Hey i dont see gender, they played into the Spongebob x Squidward onesided agegap annoying thing I always liked in the back of my mind.
