Anyway, this is his take on #BruceJensen's iconic cover art to the 1993 paperback edition of #NealStephenson's #cyberpunk novel #SnowCrash, in the background, #TheGrid, in the foreground, the world's tiniest #HiroProtagonist.

Mistigram: sometimes you get far enough into your preliminary layout of an #ANSIart adaptation that you realise, gulp, this is going to be more small-scale than I thought, maybe I should cut and run. Saner artists do, but Cthulu has a “sunk cost fallacy” way of hanging in to the bitter end and seeing it through. Anyway, this is his take on #BruceJensen’s iconic cover art to the 1993 paperback edition of #NealStephenson’s #cyberpunk novel #SnowCrash, in the background, #TheGrid, in the foreground, the world’s tiniest #HiroProtagonist. It was drawn for the new science fiction-themed MIST0526 artpack collection(, though while apparently still in a MIST0426 frame of mind!)

@sundogplanets @_L1vY_ @markhurst Do these guys realize Neal Stephenson wasn’t writing instruction manuals?

The future envisioned in #SnowCrash has passed. #AI has killed the Deliverator.

@lproven the old vagina dentata story given ... teeth.
#SciFi Neal Stephenson presented something more subtle in #Snowcrash but the amount of cleverness and prehensility imagined still seems ... out of reach.

Liebes Fediverse:

Head-mounted #VR hardware will never happen, says #NealStephenson - who coined the term ‘metaverse’
#ScienceFiction author Neal Stephenson, who coined the term “#metaverse” in his 1992 novel #SnowCrash, has argued he and others who believed immersive environments would require head-mounted hardware got it wrong.
‘People don’t like wearing things on their faces and don’t trust those who do’
20 years into the future, devices like #smartphones will still dominate.

Today on NovaLandia: "No, Zuckerberg Didn't Create the 'Metaverse'"

Over the last week, or so, or, since Fall 2025, Meta has been in the process of sunsetting their entry into the metaverse on the VR side of things, and cementing it as a mobile-only sort of experience...

I'm tyding my stuff and questions arise e.g.
Why do I have two copies of "Snow Crash"
Why are they next to each other on the shelf? I think I would have noticed when I put them there. It doesn't fit my normal chaotic ways.
I'm definitely getting old.
Anyway the local library or one of the many charity shops nearby will have a copy of "Snow Crash" soon.

William Gibson, Neal Stephenson, or Charles (Charlie) Stross never predicted this!

Amid prepping and playing a Cyberpunk Red session with a friend, I've been rereading Snow Crash.

At 77% through, I'm noticing a pattern of a ton of the violence having a sexualization aspect to it with many of the YT chapters having a "should we check his hard drives?" aspect to them. To use a meme, there's a lot of "writer's barely disguised fetish" going on, or at least the appearance of it. Like, "human shark" going for a crotch bite, what?

Got a Kobo Clara Color for Christmas today. Doing a reread of Snow Crash on it.

Reading 80s cyberpunk in 2025 is sure a mood. The references to videotape and CRTs as things that would still be in use adds a certain retro feel to them these days.

The corporate takeover stuff like "Judge Bob's Judicial System" as a franchise definitely still feels poignant though.

#SnowCrash

I read #SnowCrash by #NealStephenson recently, thinking it had been a long time since I first read it. On the basis that I didn't remember any of it, I must have confused it with another of his novels.

#SF #sciencefiction

The most unrealistic part of #SnowCrash is the suggestion that if your freelance food delivery driver is late or leaves you with someone else's order, the CEO of the place you ordered from will personally come to your house and apologise 😆

@strypey
They appear in Neal Stephenson's dystopian SF novel Snow crash.
As does much else.

I'll have to reread Snow Crash as I'm beginning to think it was prescient as to where the US is heading.

In the book the US has collapsed into various fiefdoms run by corporate entities and mafias. The Feds are just another organisation amongst others.

Well worth a read - the book is fizzing with ideas.

What was slightly disturbing was thinking which current billionaire maps the closest to L Bob Rife.

If these whackjobs start communicating in Sumerian, we should probably give Neal Stephenson a medal or something.
