  1. Bummed out the interstate is closed because it means my lesson tonight is postponed. But I was worried about my Seattle kids dealing with the extreme cold, so I'm less bummed than I could be. (It's currently 15F/-9C and feels like 2/-13.)

  2. Dear people who use I-90 outside #Seattle,

Here's the graphic #WSDOT shared elsewhere while warning how much snow #SnoqualmiePass is expecting today. (Needed because their cameras have lost power.)

I live in Hyak and can attest to the accuracy of this illustration. Delay travel if you can, be super careful if you can't, and OBEY RESTRICTIONS.

  3. Lots of fresh snow for me.

    Related:
Heard an avalanche. The first I've heard this season, although I'm sure there've been others.

And the interstate keeps fluctuating between open and closed due to collisions and spinouts. Be careful if driving up here!

  4. I spent over an hour clearing my driveway of snow this morning, but last night's dump was a little too late for the Summit ski area to open this weekend. We're good to go Tuesday, though! (Passholders only. General Public on Wednesday.)

  5. I could, if I felt adventurous, drive to Seattle. But I cannot go to the nearest real town east of me as a big rig spun out and is completely blocking the interstate.

Technically Snoqualmie Pass is still open, but unless you're only going as far as Easton, it may as well not be.

  6. Just got a text from WSDOT saying travel time over Snoqualmie Pass may be extended due to snowfall.

Which means we could be mere minutes from our first "Dumbass trucker refused to slow down and is now blocking the entire interstate" text!

  7. The snow is sticking and the Kraken won. This is the first good day I've had in a while.

  8. This is my backyard! It's not just snowing; it's STICKING!

It's not likely to last the day. But this is the first time the snow level has reached me since spring, so I'm doing my my happy dance over here!

  9. Happy November! There's no snow at my house yet, but it's creeping down Hyak! Hazzah!

I'm giving November writing challenges a pass to focus on my family, but I wish luck to everyone doing #Novelber, #WritingMonth, or the like. Happy #writing!

  10. I have to lean off the deck at just the right angle and zoom as far as my phone will go to get a picture, but I can see snow from my house today!

  11. A beloved took me to snow today! I only made it to a small patch because our canine hiking companion noped right of climbing the rock field getting to the true snow line required, but I did manage to sprawl on snow for a bit.

  12. Went on a walk to the lake with my beloveds today hoping to help myself brainstorm a response to day 7 of Story-A-Day May. It didn't work, but I got to reflect on how lucky I am to live where I do.

And when I got home, a message from my kiddo gave me the plot inspiration I needed. The story is decent enough that if I ever make a short story collection from my faerie world, it will include a revision of today's product. So that's pretty yay.

  13. Snow conditions today at Summit Central were primo. No crowds. No traffic. That is all. #skiing #SnoqualmiePass #PNW #outdoors

  14. Last day of #RainforestWritersRetreat. I've got to leave early for a #tracking trip in #SnoqualmiePass on Sunday--weather and road conditions permitting--which means missing the final night party. It's been a good #writing retreat and a chance to catch up with friends and acquaintances, and get a bit more settled into the groove I've been missing for awhile.

  15. On the other side of my house, the Hyak Sno-Park lot is nearly deserted, as opposed to already hard to find a spot in because it's a Saturday in winter. My theory is some of the crosscountry skiers and snowshoers are there, but the families with sleds and dreams of building a snowman aren't. Which is good, because while I trust most skiers to avoid hyperthermia and frostbite, I can't say the same for random sledders.

  16. It's so cold I don't want to sit in my normal coffee spot because the chill coming through the insulated curtains is too much.

There are more cars across the road for Hyak's opening day than I anticipated. I hope the people in them realize how low our predicted wind chills are (-20 something) and are dressed appropriately.

Wish I was skiing, but I'm not woman enough for this.

  17. Cross-country skiing out of Cabin Creek Sno-Park on Wednesday. Beautiful day, mostly sunny while west of the crest was shrouded in clouds. Being scolded by a little Douglas squirrel was the highlight of the day. #crosscountryskiing #Cascades #CabinCreek #snopark #snow #skiing #mountains #landscape #squirrel #I90 #SnoqualmiePass #nature #photography

  18. The Summit just announced they'll be closed tomorrow.

This will be the first Xmas my ski instructor partner J won't be working since... I don't even know. The offspring was YOUNG. So like 2008ish?

This storm is no joke, y'all. Over on Twitter, #WSDOT posted a photo of I90 by me and it was solid ice. Like you could probably play hockey on it. It wasn't this bad here when Seattle was covered in ice, but freezing rain will do that.

  19. PSA: My mountain pass ( #SnoqualmiePass ) is expecting two feet of snow tomorrow. Please reconsider coming to visit. We'll still be here Wednesday! As, I expect, will be everything on the opposite side of the pass from you.
