  1. Astrophoto: Pinwheel Galaxy – Messier 101 – 06/23 astrocamp.eu/en/astrophoto-pin My 2023 photo of the 21.000.000 LJ away Pinwheel Galaxy. Significantly sharper structures and rounder stars. These are the improvements of the new workflow. … #M101 #Messier101 #PinwheelGalaxy #SN2023ixf #clearskies

  2. Here is some data on the change in brightness of a few past supernovae.

Luminosity of a Type II SN rises for 1-3 weeks and then declines over months.
Type II-L SNe have a steady decline rate, while Type II-P supernova exhibit an intermediate plateau period with a reduced decline rate.
The average decay rate of 0.008 mag per day is much lower than that of Type Ia SNe.

  3. 18 days after it exploded on May 19, supernova SN2023ixf in the Pinwheel Galaxy M101 seems to be dimming a bit, as all Type II SNe do, gradually over a period of several months.

Note that an increase in magnitude by 1 implies a decrease in luminosity by a factor of 2.512.
    Pre-explosion mag was ~24.

  4. Real-Time #Technosignature Strategies with #SN2023ixf: arxiv.org/abs/2306.03118 -> "Several technosignature techniques focus on historic events such as SN 1987A as the basis to search for coordinated signal broadcasts from extraterrestrial agents. The recently discovered SN 2023ixf in the spiral galaxy M101 is the nearest Type II supernova in over a decade, and will serve as an important benchmark event. [...] We are commencing a radio technosignature monitoring campaign". #SETI

  5. M101 Pinwheel Galaxy and the newly discovered supernova SN2023ixf from the Bootleg Astronomy 2023 Spring Star Party. Comparing with my 2022 photo, you can see the supernova just wasn't there yet. Who says reshooting targets isn't worth it? More image details on Telescopius or Astrobin. Thanks for looking and Clear Skies!

  6. Clear skies at last, after 3 months of clouds… This is the pinwheel galaxy (M101) with the supernova SN2023ixf (marked with small red lines) that has appeared on May 19. This picture was taken during 2 consecutive nights (May 27 and 28) with a small refractor (400mm focal length). Total integration time was 4h50. Image processed with Pixinsight.

  7. "Astronomen der Universität Potsdam ist es gelungen, eine der global ersten Helligkeitsmessungen der erst am Freitagabend entdeckten Supernova SN2023ixf im Sternbild Ursa Major durchzuführen. Es ist der hellste entdeckte Ausbruch seit mehr als zehn Jahren in der Galaxie Messier 101. Eine Medieninformation der Universität Potsdam (UP)."
