> A narrative which drives almost everything in russia is called #Smekalka , which roughly means "innovation" but innovation exclusive to russia and is a huge part of russian culture. Much is same as average American might approach the ideas of freedom and liberty and some Americans believe that only America is a land of a free, some russians believe that only russia and only pure blooded russians are capable of Smekalka. The idea that they, and they alone are capable of finding creative and innovative solutions to problems that just no one else would ever think of.

Example of Smekalka - right now russian children are in school building trench candles and packing them off to a frontline for their soldiers, and this is celebrated in russia culture because only the russian mind would think of making candles to compensate for the fact that their troops cannot use electric lights because that makes them easy targets for Ukrainian drones and snipers. And this is encouraged by the government because it distracts from the fact that it's a 2023 and russia is digging trenches
