Endless billions of dollars just being burned up, destroying the planet, just so a vile coterie of venture capitalists can get "line go up."

I'm trying to get Uncle a new ID card to replace the one he lost.
The problem is, he didn't just lose his state ID card, he lost ALL his cards. His habit was to just keep them all in one big stack over an inch thick, and to take that entire stack out with him whenever he thought he might need any of the cards in it.
Then he lost the whole stack.
The New York DMV says they can't issue him an ID card if he doesn't have sufficient proof of who he is.
I'm out of ideas.

Today, that was getting sunsick. Emerson and I went to a bookshop downtown after our original plans fell through, and I got…kind of irradiated making a video while I was waiting for him to finish up inside.
I have to be awake at 10 AM tomorrow for writer’s group and I did not nap today like a fool.

The people in the #USGovernment who decided how #Medicare ID numbers look failed spectacularly.
Medicare numbers are an 11-digit string of letters and numbers. That's already dumb, because letters are harder to read clearly over the phone than numbers.
Worse, they've allowed both 0/O and 1/l in them, making the written form also ambiguous.
These were already well-known issues before these decisions were made; #Usability testing also would have revealed them.

Like I can tell she doesn’t know about the Janka Hardness scale or that redwood is significantly softer than oak species. #smdh

I just discovered that "Employer on the Go", a website I am required to use by my employer for downloading pay stubs and entering time-off requests, implements "remember me" by saving my username and password in a plaintext browser cookie.

It gets worse. They use "&" in the cookie as the separator between key/value pairs, and it's not quoted in values, so if there's a "&" in your password then they truncate it and don't pre-fill it properly on the login page.

Aug 19: They send me a weird email which seems to suggest they're going to delete my Authy account as well.
Aug 19: I reply, "Why are you threatening to delete my Authy account? I didn't ask you to delete my Authy account. I just want you to delete my SendGrid account. I don't want you to delete my Authy account. This isn't complicated."
Aug 19: They write back, oh, you must have misunderstood, we're not going to delete your Authy account, we were just mentioning it for the heck of it lol. #smdh -

1) This LinkedIn email looked legit (domain, etc.)↙️
2) But Clicking on the "Chastain" image gave a 404 error
3) Google Lens found the image source: ↘️
4) Clicking on the emailed link showed "LinkedIn Member" not "Chastain" & gave a warning↙️↙️
5) The email passed Gmail SPF - DKIM - DMARC authentication↘️↘️
6) Conclusion: you've been Zero-day’d!

OK, so, if I set up a monthly donation to your #charity, and later I discover that you never sent me any instructions for how to change or cancel it, nor are there instructions on your web site, then after I've contacted you and you tell me how to do it, I'm probably going to cancel the donation, regardless of how important I think your organization is, because it's FUCKING NOT OK to take people's money every month without telling them clearly up-front how to turn it off.

Kid-who-is-fighting-with-the-insurance-company asked for restaurant takeout for lunch, which I obviously agreed to because I'm not a monster. I ordered for everybody in the family (except me, I'd already eaten). It was too much food to fit in one #motorcycle saddlebag, so I asked the restaurant to pack the order in two bags, which they agreed to do.
Upon arrival at the restaurant I discovered that they had "helpfully" tied the two bags together tightly by their plastic handles. 😂🤣 #smdh -
#tfw you email a time-sensitive question to a coworker on July 10, and several followup reminders that it's time-sensitive, and when they finally reply on July 30, their reply says things you already knew and completely fails to answer the question you asked. #smdh
(They are in a timezone 14 hours ahead of mine, which makes both "just walk over to their desk and straighten it out" and "just pick up the phone and call them and straighten it out" somewhat challenging.)
