I believe #smartmontools can be used to check how much data has been written to a drive. This is helpful to run when receiving a "new" drive for validation purposes. Is there something similar for #eMMC? Unfortunately it appears that smartmontools does not work with emmc. :(

I use smartmontools for my own work. It is very useful and I was even able to get it to check SMART status of drives behind a Dell RAID controller. So I like and use smartmontools.
This client specifically requested HD Sentinel because it has become an industry standard among drive sellers.

If you have a S.M.A.R.T. monitored disk and get "unreadable (pending) sectors" or "failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED" or "Offline uncorrectable sectors" errors or such, here's how to find out which file system blocks and files are affected, and how to force the about to be failing disk to reallocate (map out) those sectors:
