Cutting of the semi-natral grassland areas in the campus, always feels like a definitive sign that Autumn has arrived. However, with the dry summer it is definitely needed (grasshoppers have all but disappeared) and a later cut last year did the herbs no favours this year.
There are still enough patches left for me to find 4 butterfly species this morning. Fewer flowers for nectar does help!

Last weekend, we had about 20 of these #butterflies feeding off the Mexican orange bush just coming into flower again. Most were fairly clear phenotypes of the #SmallCopper #butterfly. This one drew my attention due to purple edge wings reminiscent of the #PurpleEdgedCopper. Can anyone help out ? Is this some kind of hybrid or is the purple edging a known variation for small coppers?
