This week I’ve got stuck into working on a piece of research I started writing up in 2012 – it’s on my favourite short-lived paragraph of the Immigration Restriction Act 1901. My last attempt at finishing it was in 2020, but this time it’s for real! #slowscholarship 🗃️

And this: "A common argument for Generative AI is a promise of higher productivity. Yet productivity does not equal insight, and when kept unchecked it may hinder innovation and creativity. We do not need more papers, faster; we rather need more thoughtful, deep work, also known as slow science" (see https://osf.io/preprints/osf/2c48n for cited sources in this). I'd argue for #slowscholarship more generally.

Sometimes, my walks lead to unexpected marvels. It started out today as a quest to find old border buildings near Moillesulaz (🇨🇭) / Moëllesulaz (🇫🇷) but they were all apparently flattened & replaced with a shiny new (& super useful!) cross-border tram & modern blocks of flats or administrative buildings. The border feels like it’s at the end of the world in the middle of rural landscapes in🇨🇭but across in 🇫🇷 it’s close to an industrial centre, power lines, a gas pipeline and roads.
