"Can't Let Go" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter #MariahCarey for her second studio album, #Emotions (1991). #ColumbiaRecords released it as the album's second single in November 1991. Featuring #synthesizers and #drumProgramming, "Can't Let Go" is a #breakupSong in the form of an #RAndB and pop #slowJam. The lyrics, written by Carey, are about post-breakup sadness. She composed the music and produced the song with #WalterAfanasieff.

This week I led two #jazz slow jam sessions for beginners at #ReedCollege as part of the college's community learning week called Paideia. A #SlowJam is just that, playing very slowly so that people who are new to a jam or to the tunes can get started. The first goal is listening to each other so that we can play *together*. The students were enthusiastic and successful. And my co-leader and I had an absolute blast.

Well, if like me you're old enough to remember 'Quiet Storm' - the slow but groove-driven, R'n'B lovers ballads of the 1980s, which drew strongly on the Philly vibe from the 70s (think Anita Baker, Jean Carne), then you be intrigued that Slow Jam nights are picking up in club land.

Tuesday’s #Recording is a sleeper lurking in my #roon #recommended albums. This #postbop #piano #jazz #quartet record is a bit of a #slowjam #postbop program. Sadly, no credits with this ACT label disk but composition, arranging, and playing make for a varied, engaging, and enjoyable experience.
