Advertising industry, a parable in two parts:

Ad industry spends a couple of decades and develops interactive, scripted tracking advertisement technology involving incredibly fast automated bidding, interest-matching, distribution, in addition to all kinds of metrics that take advantage of the 2-way communication of the internet to reinforce ads, measure their distribution and performance, and other stuff.

The only advertisement I've seen in the last year that actually interested me enough to look up the company on the internet: painted on the side of a disused tractor-trailer parked in a farmer's field near the highway I was driving on yesterday.
