The Secrets Hours is absolutely fantastic, probably the best book in the series, and it's not actually a mainline #SlowHorses book. It may take me a couple of toots to explain just why it hit so well for me.
If you're a #SloughHouse book completist and have read all the shorts, you've had glimpses of a couple a story in Berlin with Molly and Jackson. The Secret Hours basically lets us in on the rest of it. Heron does it in a very clever way that sort of makes this 3 books in 1...

I finished reading the entire Slough House series, novellas included and wonder what I should read next. I previously read Le Carre’s The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and found it way too grim. My experience with spy fiction is limited aside from that. I seem to like the sweet and sour combination of grim and funny generally, like Laundry Files which is a bit more grim, or Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency which is a bit more funny. #bookstodon #SloughHouse #SpyFiction

Just finished reading the new Slough House book by Mick Herron - Clown Town.

Not as good as some of the others in the series. I got the feeling that Herron may be getting tired. Yes, it does have the usual characters and Lamb seems to be more obnoxious that usual.

I’ve been off social media for a few days, a combination of work, life and having my nose stuck firmly into the #SloughHouse books by #MickHerron, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I just have the three novellas to polish off and then I’ll have read the lot.

While I wanted to take my time, savour the jokes, & marvel at the stop-you-in-your-tracks sentences, I couldn't resist racing through it, hell bent for leather.
It's a thriller, a frightening & hilarious exposé of MI5 & UK politics in all their shoddy, ruthless skulduggery — but written with a poet's touch, dark, beautiful, & very funny.
As a bonus, it's a delicious adjunct to the #SloughHouse series.
