  1. Here, the time axis is distorted. As a side effect, the geometry of the glass cubes are also distorted. It bears some resemblance to slit-scan photography, but I don't know of a proper technical term to describe these effects.

  9. A slit-scan movie. Some colorful stuff is rotating and will be distorted.

It's harder to find an appealing look with this video to video transformation technique (compared to slit-scan photography).

  13. FotoVorschlag: Unerwartetes Ergebnis / Surprising result

Still trying to predict what the output will be given an input movie and settings for the slitscan program. This used a downward-panning shot of a street scene in Vietnam

  15. An early experiment with slitscan processing, made from a movie of Balinese dancer. (Vertical video has some uses, after all.)

Made with Martin Dixon's Processing code, archived at web.archive.org/web/2019020605

  17. A Camera Descending a Staircase, No 1

I accidentally didn't focus the camera properly while i was walking down the stairs. So the result isn't just a slit-scan effect. But I’ll be going down those stairs again in the next few days.

  21. @gonzoart13 For Glitch, i follow these tags: #glitch #databending. I'm not sure if there's a dedicated server for Glitch.

#Trichrome technique dates back to the era of analog photography. Digital simulation of this effect looks often like Glitch.

The things I've posted over the last few days are based on #Slitscan technique. That's not very common. @hesselschut consistently publishes slit-scan images and animations.

    Dies ist ein solches Beispiel:
    original Film -> #slitscan Algorithmus -> FFmpeg
    Man müsste es nachträglich vertonen.

  25. @wtrmt I had written two different programs to create a slit-scan film from original footage. However, so far it has remained at the experimental stage. In terms of processing power and memory requirements, it is even more demanding than the film-to-still process.

But in my opinion, the real problem is the aesthetics. Procedural methods that produce convincing results in a still image do not work well visually in the film-to-film process.

  27. @wtrmt This type of #slitscan is done as a post process. Converting a movie (x/y/time data) into a single image.

First I'm recording the footage. High frame rate (60 – 240 frames per second) and low or medium resolution (1280x720 or 1920x1080 pixel). Using a second hand iPhone 8 or a X100VI camera.

The effect is created using this open-source software. gitlab.com/metagrowing/slitscan It is very computationally intensive.

This 4 images were created from the same film. Only using different algorithms.
