I think the other big issue that hurt #SlimeRancher2 for me was the random nature of rewards. The treasure pods contain a mix of critical character upgrades and utterly useless cosmetics with no way to tell until you open it. There are also puzzles to unlock doors going backwards. Setting up a clearly handcrafted challenge with an expectation of reward and then not delivering really kills my gamer brain motivation. At the very least cosmetic pods should be a different color, maybe remove the NPC gifted cosmetics entirely.

A lot of the issues with #SlimeRancher2 could be fixed if things were cheaper. There are drones to automate the ranch, which would logically free you up to do what it takes to complete the story, but they have hard limits on usefulness and how many you can get, and they're far more useful for collecting outside resources because you're going to need ALOT if you want to get the teleporters to not run back and forth over the same ground 50 times. If the drones and teleporters were cheaper, unlocked earlier, and you could get more of them that could help with the repetitiveness.

I finished #SlimeRancher2. I stopped collecting shadow plorts, stopped unlocking chests and shortcuts, gave up on making items, stopped checking the messages, stopped feeding the slimes at my ranch, and looked up where the hidden walls were to trigger the ending. This is a beautiful game with a lot of fun elements and also a lot of not fun elements and the pieces don't fit together cohesively and it's hard to tell what matters.

I've been playing #SlimeRancher2. It's a great game except that it doesn't respect my time. I thought it was a little grindy with the collecting before I got drones and teleporters, but the shadow plort grind is insane. There's no way I'm collecting 1,000 of these things manually, and I can't tell in advance whether I'm going to get a critical upgrade or path unlocked or a useless cosmetic.
