  1. A new OrcaSlicer fork with innovative solutions for printing in colors. It uses overhangs to hide a previous color and require a single tool change per layer, reducing time and waste.

  3. Orca Slicer 2.4.0 was released couple of days ago and for me it was a very exciting release as it added Z contouring.

Benchy's roof is a good example of slightly angled flat surface where the layers become very apparent. Z contouring aims to minimize this effect by adjusting Z axis movement below the layer size in these spots. It's basically better version of dynamic layer size as it automatically targets the problem spots.

Here's Benchy's roof in 0.24 layers, first picture as is and second with the Z contouring enabled. The layers are still there, but look at what happens to the layer steps at the back. It's almost smooth now.

I'm very curious to see how this'll look printed and I'll follow up as soon as this prints.

If you want to try, get the Orca 2.4.0, turn the UI to expert and you'll find Z contouring in the Quality settings.

  5. The #slicer needs to be configured for this use case. Nozzle and bed temperature of the #3dprinter should be set
to 0 degrees and the print head should be configured so it retracts 5 mm between printing each shape.

  12. I'm printing it. I incremented the #flowrate in the #slicer to be sure there are no gaps and it's actually #waterproof. Also, it's printed in #petg for the same reason.
Very bad orientation, it allows to save some plastic but let's hope it will not fail 🫣
