I’m up extra early this morning. Woke a little before four, got a drink of water, laid back down — but sleep wasn’t coming. So I got up again and let Charlie out into the backyard. Figured I’d kick back in the recliner for a bit, but it was clear sleep wasn’t in the cards, so I came in here. It happens like that now and then.
It’s cold this morning for Louisiana — 22°F. No wonder Charlie didn’t want to stay outside long. We had a bit of snow yesterday, just enough to dust the rooftops and evergreen trees. Mostly it rained, though, so I imagine schools and such are closed today out of caution for icy roads. The frozen water kind of ice. Folks around here aren’t exactly skilled at driving on slick pavement.
Icy roads should make things interesting at the two relatively new traffic circles in town. Even in good weather, some people struggle with those. You can almost see the gears turning: Do I go or wait? What does that big triangle mean? Are the cars in the circle supposed to let me in? It’s understandable — not everyone’s well traveled.
That brings me to a thought: there are people in this country who’ve never ventured far from home. Some haven’t even left their own state. And when you think about it, that explains a lot. Without exposure to different places and lives, all you know is what’s around you — where everyone’s circumstances look the same. Which reminds me of one of my sayings:

Good morning tooting friends. Had a day off yesterday, mainly because I was awake a 3am yesterday morning, couldn’t get back to sleep so I got up & started my day at 4.30am. Usual for some people, not at all usual for me. I did manage to get a couple of jobs done including visiting a local specsavers due to eye issues again. Still it was basically a groggy nothing day. Then late afternoon comes & all of a sudden I have my second wind. I’m as bright as a button & not feeling at all tired. My brother though has to go to bed early as he has another 2.30am shift start so I watch tv in my bedroom to keep things quiet for him. Fell asleep around 10.30pm or thereabouts & didn’t wake until after 7am this morning. Didn’t even hear my brother leave & I feel quite groggy again. Today will be a quiet day again although I need new sneakers. I brought my old faithfuls with me & they now have a split on top & the sole is worn right down. Not bad though for 8yr old $30 Aldi specials 😃.
Looks like it’s going to be a fairly nice warm day here, perfect for doing very little. Hopefully will be visiting my older brother tomorrow, all going well & it may well be my last chance.

Sleep didn't come easy last night. I finally just got up and went to the family room and kicked back in my magic chair. Sleep came to me after 03:00 A.M. True to his heart, Charlie left me alone until almost seven, "time to eat." But after feeding the dogs and putting on the coffee, I slept another hour, or so. Speaking of Charlie, he just came in to pester me about going outside again.
Sometimes I wonder, in all that tossing and turning, did I sleep a bit without knowing. Hmmm ... more coffee please.

I slept late this because I didn't get to sleep until after two this morning. It's almost 8 AM and I'm just now taking my first sips of coffee.
Hmmm ... I can't recall ever having problems sleeping in my early years, except as a child on Christmas Eve or sometimes if we had plans to go fishing the following morning. But that was because of excited anticipation. I'd say that for my first 50 years, I could go to sleep at the drop of a hat. The thing is though, I didn't require as much sleep. Indeed, there were times it my 20s and 30s that I could get by on two to four hours of sleep. I'd even slept on the ground or on the floor in an airport with no problem.
