Camping With Most Of My Family

All that I can remember of this dream is that my parents (mom and dad), all of my brothers (CC, GC, TDC, and KDC), and I went camping.

I am not sure if my sister-in-laws were with us or not, probably not

I am also not sure where we were exactly.

The dream possibly took place over at least two or three days, but I am not sure.

I just remember us spending the night in a clearing in the woods / forest / wilderness.

We slept on the ground on sleeping pads with sleeping bags out in the open with no tents et cetera.

We possibly had a campfire, but I am not sure.

I do know that we had some flashlights.

I am not sure if we had any weapons or not.

But I assume that we probably had sticks, some tools, and maybe / hopefully at least CC & KDC & TDC had guns.

I am not sure if we spent each night in the same clearing or not.

I just remember a montage of 1 – 3 days of us sleeping in the clearing.

Waking up sometimes and shinning our lights to make sure that threats were not watching us or near us.

Oddly, we had no one on watch, and we had no barricades et cetera.

So we were completely exposed and vulnerable as we slept.

So I kept waking up whenever I heard anything.

We possibly had to scare away some wildlife / animals a few times.

That is all that I can remember of this dream.

Here's an interesting idea—put a hammock INSIDE a standard sleeping bag. The bag has "ports" on both ends to pass the hammock thru. It took me a while to figure out how to pitch it properly, but once I did it worked pretty well as far as staying warm is concerned. But because you are constrained by the bag, you can't really sleep off-axis. So interesting but not really comfortable for a tall adult. Might work for a child?

We were shopping for new hiking boots for Mrs. Bergmeister today and stumbled on a summer sleeping bag. My sleeping bag is quite bulky and I always need my heavy 62+20L backpack when I want to take it. This one should fit easily in my 40L with the other gear. Temps to 8°C, which should be OK for overnight free camping mountain trips in summer. Did not buy yet, but very good contender.

@lizard I am going to 96.3421% disagree on down compression. I have a down bag over 25yrs old. Just took it to Nepal last year and stayed cosy at subzero. Lofted properly.

The bag only gets compressed on trips and only for a couple of hours during carry, then gets rolled open again.

When back home, it gets stored uncompressed and not even in a bag.

I have done a bunch of MYOG in the past, but sometimes you find something that just eliminate ls the need to do so.

Unusual, innovative way to deal with hammock camping in cold weather...

This sleeping bag has "ports" on both ends so the lightweight hammock can fit *INSIDE* the bag.

I bought this bag on a whim (close-out sale) several years ago and just figured out how it was supposed to work!

There is a downside however, due to the mummy configuration of the bag you cannot lay on the diagonal to flatten the curve. Not very comfortable for a tall person like me!

There are two options to deal with this. The obvious one is to not use a sleeping bag. The other option is to use one that is wider and permits more movement.

After realising my existing sleeping bag was more than 20 years old, I ordered a new one. As with every other buying decision, the internet has made this both exponentially easier, but also exponentially harder. I have absolutely wasted brainpower this week on considering if I really need the “comfort” rating of my bag to be -10c or -20c. #Neither #Choices #SleepingBag

One week ago, I had never been in a #sleepingbag before. Today, all my #pets and I have snuggled in my new sleeping bag while I #WFH ♥️ It's like a big, comfy duvet with the added benefit of keeping my feet covered effortlessly, it's a #gamechanger 🥰
