  1. 🐭🚀Mice from #OuterSpace: New preprint by Kiffer et al. applies #SLEAP pose tracking and #DeepEthogram behavioral segmentation to archival mouse videos from #NASA’s Rodent Research-1 mission aboard the #ISS 🛰️

Turns out: In #microgravity, mice reorganize behavior fast. They cluster for rest, launch themselves across the cage, and develop acrobatic looping movements as they adapt to orbital life 💫

  2. Anyone here working on #PoseEstimation #animalbehavior #neuroethology ?

You may be interested in the free and open-source Python 🐍 package I’m currently working on, together with @adamltyson @bd_peri and others.

It’s called movement, and it’s made for analysing the pose tracks produced by pose estimation frameworks, like #DeepLabCut and #SLEAP.

It’s still in early development 🏗️ but we appreciate feedback/feature requests.

  3. Okay, #introduction time.

I'm in the middle of a weird disciplinary leap right now but #neuroethology might be the right name. I did my PhD at UT Austin on #EnergyBalance and social context as factors in decisions about whether to signal in singing mice, with a pretty standard #BehavioralEcology perspective; currently, I'm working with #SLEAP and #PoseEstimation on mouse models of neurodivergence in the Grissom lab at UMN, experimenting with #BigData large scale behavioral collection.
