All the snow melted yesterday and then froze around here last night, but at least the gritters are out!
For the last of the summer wine mastodon fans, that is the road they crashed their tin bath cart on.

Walked along the canal to the jazz festival in a neighbouring village. Came across a neighbour's lost chicken on the way home and spent an hour chasing it through woodland. Living here is fun.

We thankfully missed the (thundery) rain on our afternoon dogwalk but definitely saw the rainbows.

A row of shops in #Slaithwaite is celebrating its centenary this year and I've joined a group to pull together a timeline & oral histories of people who've shopped/worked there over the last century.
As part of that, on Monday, we got to dig into the archives at the Colne Valley Museum. We found some images of the shops from the 1950s, but I was more excited about finding a pic of our house from 1977 and a series documenting the building of the M62, inc my fave bridge.

Looking over #Slaithwaite from our side of the valley, a working textile mill rather dominates the view and since moving here in 2020 and realising it makes the yarn I use in most of my blankets, I have *yearned* to see inside. It finally happened yesterday!
We had a tour around the part that deals with producing Stylecraft hand knit yarns. We saw the whole process, from the raw acrylic coming in to the finished balls being wound, banded & packaged. Seeing all the machines running was hypnotic.

It has been (our village) #Slaithwaite's Moonraking festival this week, culminating in the lantern parade last night. It was the 40th anniversary of the festival this year and boy, you can tell that some locals have grown up making lanterns! The quality was amazing - considering they're all just willow, masking tape & tissue paper.
There were about 300 lanterns in the parade, most made at community workshops during the week, and probably 1500 people on the streets. It was a lovely atmosphere 😍

Every other year, our village (#Slaithwaite) has a community event called Moonraking.
Once upon a time, local smugglers used the canal to hide their stash - and when they were caught trying to haul it out again, they pretend to be simpletons, raking the moon out of the water. (This may not be 100% true.)
I'm volunteering at some of the public lantern making workshops later this month, so spent the day yesterday working on my own creation to remind myself of the tricks. Fun!

Fox tracks in the snow #photography #snow #yorkshire #colnevalley #slaithwaite

It's still rather snowy up here. I think today is the first day since Sunday that we've not had a top-up.
Our drive has been blocked since the weekend, and the road snowy, then super icy. We can get out on foot but aren't going further than dog walks. We went down a farm track yesterday where the snow was about a metre deep: it took us ages to walk it because we were laughing the whole way.

Photography is pretty easy. All you need is an alright camera, a good vantage point and a beautiful universe. #colnevalley #slaithwaite #photography #cloudinversion #sunset

There has been amazing cloud inversions around Huddersfield today.
The first two pictures are Scammonden Reservoir; the second, views over the Colne Valley (and out into the distance towards Emley Moor).
Gorgeous day!

I'm seeing a lot more sunrises now that we have a puppy. Amazing cloud inversion over Linthwaite and Slaithwaite this morning. Had the SLR around (again due to the puppy) so got some amazing shots.

A long awaited day finally came: Rosey Bean's first visit to the puppy play session! (At Dragonfly in #Slaithwaite.)
There were 7 dogs, aged from 13 to ~20 weeks, but sized from cavapoo (ish) to Great Dane. Rosey was super excited when she first arrived - chasing all the bigger dogs! - but with a bit of encouragement, she calmed down a bit after that.
It was delightful, watching them all play together. Can't wait to go back!

A couple more photos from our visit to Wainhouse Tower, including a view of the Moorside Edge antennas in Slaithwaite #halifax #slaithwaite #wainhousetower

At the start of the year, I took a stained glass class at Globe Arts in #Slaithwaite.
My first project was a gannet, inspired by the ones that flew alongside our boat in Shetland in April. I love the watery texture in the blue - very much like the seas up there. Tilda seems to approve too!
I didn't have much time for my second piece so went for something with more straight lines. I didn't realise until I brought it home that I'd done the burger piece upside down 🤦♀️ Still: fun!

Five days later and the car is still there but "the wind" seems to have pushed it a bit further down the hill and out of the road. In this case, I think "the wind" is actually the local farmer. Much quicker to get down to the village now!
