I wanna build an #ArtCollective - a space with all variety of printers, plotters, cutters, engravers, embossers, typesetters - screen printing, embroidery & sewing, painting and music rehearsal studios... all accessible to the #community through a sliding scale membership - or better - grants.
It would give #artists a place to pratice and create, as well as teach and pass on their skills through demonstrations, classes & workshops.
Get people off the streets and inside making #art and drinking #coffee and #learning in an open and awesome environment.
Once a month we could have a showcase night - like a #SlabCity open mic.

It was one helluva weird introduction to a very weird place. I stayed quite late and eventually camped in my car on a random piece of desert away from the commotion. #california #slabcity #wtfjusthappened

The other day we went to Slab City- a #community of hippies and runaway #outsider artists living in a trailer and #diy home community just past the Salton Sea municipal waste dump power substation. With the remaining daylight we saw Salvation Mountain. before getting chased away with threats of violence. So much for peace an love. We found a more welcoming crowd at "The Range" where there was an open mic night. I wish I could make them neon!

Thoroughly enjoyed my trip to #SlabCity. The people were welcoming and friendly, the use of folk art as #anticapitalist and #anarchist aesthetics and politics was breath-taking. If only it wasn’t so damn hot!!

Since we've watched a few #BenFogle documentaries recently we thought we'd give another one a go now that's just starting on Channel 5, looking at a place called Slab City or The Slabs, an off-grid community in #California
