Storm front came through Ann Arbor, temperature dropped abruptly from 91F to 72F.

Reports from Washtenaw County spotters include torrential rain, pea sized hail, a few trees down, and flickering power. 1" rain so far from a COCORAHS reporter. Our power bounced twice at the house, just long enough to knock me offline briefly.

Nice way to break a heat wave.

Washtenaw County condition green Skywarn net. wx report from Manchester MI was a 35 mph gust front with no rain.

I am sitting on the front porch hoping that the storm, when it starts, gives me enough warning to bring all my gear inside in time.

As an alternative, I could probably use this as an OpenClaw task that generates such a 5 minute (or collection of 5 minute) topic(s). I may do that anyway for now.

I bought a cheap #Baofeng for my dad, a UV-7B

He wants to listen to the local #Skywarn repeater near him

I'm gently encouraging him to study and take the exam for the Technician license sometime over the next year (hopefully before July 2026, when the question pool changes)

I also have a book on order that I'll be giving to him for the holidays

I think he would enjoy talking to local folks with this handheld, he likes to "shoot the shit" already which will be good for rag-chewing, lol

Warning cancelled, net has completed as of 839p. Watch continues until midnight. The storm weakened to the point that though it was pouring in Dexter, there's little or no rain in Ann Arbor.

The US NWS is soliciting comments on the possible use / trial of Bluesky. I plan to encourage them to also look at the fediverse and, at a minimum, use Bridgy Fed to bridge to Mastodon (hat tip to NWS Boston, which is already doing this). #NWS #NOAA #SKYWARN #USWx #MAWx
