When you don’t support more active forms of #transportation like #publictransit and #cycling, this is the world we are supporting: #cars congesting much of the road. This is Marshall road clogged up from Sumas Way all the way to McKenzie road on a Wednesday afternoon. If you just add another lane for #singleoccupancy cars, you get the exact same issue: just another lane of #congestion only slightly shorter. But if you were instead to put in a lane for #buses and #cyclists, then we would have a new lane that actually moves people keep quickly than just another car lane. And when public #transit becomes faster and more reliable than cars, more people will pick transit over their cars, and that in turn also makes the road better for those who need to use cars for things like transporting items as they will have less congestion in their lanes from more people using the bus instead of a car for transporting people. Communities around BC are headed to #municipal #elections this fall, and if #Abbotsford wants to get out of its congestion issues, it’s time to vote for a #mayor and #council that will improve transit and other forms of active transportation that will get our roads moving quicker, like more #buslanes as well as brining the #Skytrain or another two-way passenger #rail service from Metro #Vancouver into Abbotsford. Let’s build transportation in this city that’s better designed to move people around #town, not one to move the car companies’ profits.

Question for #SkyTrain nerds: why do the LIM trains sound like they "gear up" as they're pulling out of stations? I would expect an electric motor to be continuous, especially in this configuration!

Mi oficina está en la misma cuadra que el estadio de fútbol (ambos tipos de fútbol)... También es un lugar para conciertos, así que muchas veces al salir de la oficina puedo ver llegar a los fans... o durante el día escuchar a los artistas ensayando... La estación #Skytrain Stadium está cerca.
Este estadio tendrá partidos de #FIFA2026... si la humanidad puede tener un evento internacional.

It's also a place for concerts, so a lot of times when leaving the office I can see the fans arriving... or during the day listen to the artists rehearsing... The Stadium #Skytrain station is close. From this angle, you can see at least four of the SkyTrain's five rails. Not seen here: this is multiple storeys under street level, and looks as if it is underground most of the time, but this is at the true ground level.

Yesterday, getting off the #metro / #skytrain in downtown #Vancouver a couple of workers, I assume, fixing a lamppost... I liked the perspective formed by the movable platform... and why not.. the blue sky so uncommon in the #westcoast in December

From the archives: Interurban Tram 74 BCER and others awaiting scrapping, 1953.
A shame that the Metro Vancouver Interurban Tram system was completely scrapped in the fifties to make room for roads. Decades later the Skytrain system rebuilt some of these routes but at a much higher price point because of the elevated tracks.
