We've got an original fiction series inspired by the film, a line of 3 3/4 injection molded action figures, some keshi based on like cute/chibbi versions of thme characters from our fiction series, posters, and a new score and translation for the original film.

we took it as a base and ran pretty far from the original, but they were the primary inspiration for all our #skypirate stuff.

I got this picture of one of our #skypirate Captain standing along side Lando.

I was looking to get a comparison between one of our hand painted toys and a commercially released toy from the 80s.

Except I didn't have any commercially released toys from the 80s around, I had a 2010s bootleg of the surprisingly rare limited run '85 General Lando.

(I have more to say about Lando, it'll go in the next post.)

So this is a very good factory made bootleg of one of the more complicated toys to come out of the Kenner Star Wars line, standing next to our Mysterious Air Pirates captain.

In terms of level of detail and quality of production, I'd argue that they're pretty much equivalent.

Also on that landing page, offered for sale for the first time outside of a couple of in person appearances, is our Sky Pirate Manifesto poster.

I wrote this, taking inspiration from the Futurist manifesto.

The Futurists were not good people, but they were fascinating.

This one takes some explanation.

I've always had a perverse fascination with the Italian futurists. They were artists and poets, often very progressive but also frequently as regressive as you can imagine, who were eventually seduced by and subsumed into the Italian Fascist movement.

They stood at odds with the fascist in many ways. The fascists were desperate for a return to some lost glory, the futurists conversely were most concerned with leaving that old world behind.

The Russian futurists, Soviet futurists, took the basic ideas of Italian futurism and divorced them from the fascism and senseless violence, leaving something significantly more interesting.

As I've explored this history, this poetry, these paintings and films, and thought about how the Futurist movement was building at the same time that Filibus was produced...

Well, I was inspired.

What happens when you take the idea that art and poetry are political, and that the politics of art and poetry can bring about the future, but remove from that the idea of SPEED and PROGRESS by any means necessary?

What happens when you bring humanity back into your artistic statement of political purpose?

What happens if you replace the dictatorial speed and gunfire obsession of the futurists with an anarchist, humanist embrace of the slow?

Hence my #SkyPirate manifesto.

Alright, I think this is my last Assembly Required post for today.

Announcing Filibus, The Mysterious Air Pirate.

Filibus is a hand made action figure, based on the 1915 film Filibus. They are a genderfluid airship captain, and the star of my serial magazine The Mysterious Air Pirates.

These are the first batch of our Deluxe Full-color edition figures. They're hand painted.

Future editions will probably involve paint masks, but I didn't have time to do it fast so I had to take the time to do it slow.

There are currently 5 of this Deluxe Edition Filibus Action Figure, along with about two dozen of a show exclusive variant. They will be available this weekend at Assembly Required in Asheville, NC.

After Assembly Required, a second hand painted batch will be available for fedifolk sometime in Feb, and another different edition will be available in March.

Alright! Here's the finished cardbacks for the limited deluxe edition of our new Sky Pirate action figures.

The figure in the bubble is a partially painted test-shot, with some issues that will get resolved tomorrow.

This will be a limited run, with a canvas cardback and a reseelable bubble. They'll be hand numbered, and first come first served at #AssemblyRequired \\ #AssemblyRequiredAsheville this weekend.

There will be another limited run in an alternate colorway towards the end of Feb, followed by the less limited run in March.

Issue two is done, I'm not sure why it isn't on the website, but I'll fix that at some point.

The Douglas XTB2D Skypirate was a torpedo bomber intended for service with the United States Navy’s Midway and Essex-class aircraft carriers. Two prototypes were completed, but the dedicated torpedo bomber was becoming an outdated concept, and with the end of World War II, the type was deemed unnecessary and cancelled.

I've been working on a fiction serial adventure series featuring Filibus and her crew, transforming them in to Doc Savage style pulp adventure heroes, but without the bigotry and with a lot more #RevolutionaryJoy

I recommend against re-releasing or remixing the above copy if you're worried about copyright infringement, as that one uses a new translation and new inter-titles which are probably under copyright. The original english titles are lost, afaik.

I'm working on a new new translation ( https://communitymedia.video/w/nYaqWnn34d57auvQeSE6TY ) with cc-by-sa intertitles and a new score, but it isn't ready yet.

That's one of the projects I want to pick back up in the near future.

Regardless, #filibus is a #feminist #skypirate film full of #airship shenanigans and #queer #romance #revolutionaryJoy. It's also 100 years old, and it was the inspiration for our #skypirates playset.
