  1. Final day of recording "Up- A Scientist's Guide to the Magic above Us" as an audio book today.

If you fancy me reading you a bedtime story, (aimed at adults - but no adult content!!) you can purchase it here:

  2. In the Air this week:

Have you seen a Buff Tailed Bumblebee yet this year? They like all types of flowers, particularly open daisy-type ones due to having short tongues.

The worker bees have an almost white tail (it’s the queen that has a buff-coloured tail).

    Post your bee pics!

  5. @SkyingClub Automatically! Lived next to Heathrow for many years, so saw just about every make and model of passenger jet under the sun, every 30 seconds or so (and, yes, Concorde was among them). Pretty sure this cemented my childhood association of the sky with adventure.

Today, I live, quite by accident, in a military aviation hotspot, so regularly see F-15s/35s, Eurofighters and Hawks, and we even have a local Spitfire and Tiger Moth in circulation.

  6. We're at the end of #SkyingHour - many thanks to all who joined in.

I'm taking a break from #SkyingHour for August - but watch this space in September! (And I'll still be posting and RTing other peoples #Skying pics.

If you have any comments about the format etc please let me know.

    Have a great #Skying month!

  7. @SkyingClub Hello! I'm not sure if this counts, but I've been circling just below some very active thermal clouds this week that were also being enjoyed by birds and fellow glider pilots alike. Conditions aloft have been extremely clear, as we're still in the early days of this high pressure system, so a good view of the ground and the horizon. Earlier in the week, the frontal clouds that heralded these conditions also had some particularly fantastic textures.

  9. Q6: Thunderbolts and Lightning – very very frighting, or a good thing to see? #SkyingHour #Skying Any pics??

  10. A5 #SkyingHour #WrongAnswersOnly Bumblebees do not fly. They are on invisible roller coasters which move them about erratically. #Skying
