Checked off three more #Idaho #backcountry airstrips on my current #XPlane #flightsim mission. Only two to go, way south on the Nevada border.
Ended my day at Thomas Creek airstrip (2U8). I was expecting an actual airstrip, but instead it is just a flat meadow with a couple of wind socks.
Runways were listed as 3/21, so I landed RWY 3 on what I assumed might be the runway. No squirrels were harmed as I mowed the grass.

Me: "hey... it's been a while since I've flown the Skyhawk and I want to carry out some passenger flights the next days. Can we..."
FI: "Sure. Let's go."
...
FI: "....get these people on board and go!"

I have reason to be in Corvallis, Oregon next week for five hours, so I booked a (re)Discovery flight in a Cessna 172 at Corvallis Aero Service.
WX might be iffy for the day I am going to be there, but it ought to be fun to see how much rust has developed since I last flew as PIC in 2016.
And yes, I will be practicing on my #XPlane #flightsim in the 172SP both steam and G1000 panel to get the feel for the plane again.

Now that I had my fun earlier today with the “Trump Asleep in a Courtroom” prompt on https://deepai.org, I thought I’d give it a real test using my usual “Jesus Flying a Cessna Airplane” prompt.
It failed hilariously. Who can possible think this garbage technology is ready for prime time?

Went to update my Adobe Creative Cloud and found their attempt at AI, something I did not know about called Firefly.
Did my usual test phrase of “Jesus Flying a Cessna Airplane” and yep, it failed miserably. If Adobe can’t get this right, maybe AI image generators are just a joke.

Some Cessna flying is always a good idea.

After several days of trying to fly the Cirrus SF50 jet in my #XPlane #flightsim, there just seems to be a number of glitches. Twice tonight while trying to fly KHND (Henderson in Vega$) to KASE (Aspen), the program abruptly quit in the same spot. The other night, while normally burning 100GPH of fuel, it was burning 350GPH.
So while it is far less speedy, the Laminar #Cessna 172 #Skyhawk continues to be fully rock solid, so that’ll be my ride for a while.

A4-M Skyhawk 2 This particular A-4 is shown at the Rhode Island Air Show, Quonset, Rhode Island, USA. It is finished in the colours of the United States Marine Corps. #skyhawk #A4 #RhodeIslandAirShow #RhodeIsland #Quonset #USA #avgeek #aviationlovers #aviation #USMC #UnitedStatesMarineCorps

Further discovery in the #XPlane X1000 system (identical to G1000). If you leave the Nav airport info screen open, it automagically links your plane to the nearest airport as you fly enroute, showing distance, runways and frequencies. Nice thing to have along for the ride.
Now if it would just list the price of the hamburgers along the route, wouldn’t THAT be special? (OMG, am I turning into The Church Lady?)

Made a quick trip over to Boise from Eugene tonight, with routing specifically to get me a good look at Mt. Hood with this new and improved graphics in my #Xplane #flightsim re-install.
When parked, it looked like a Cirrus SF50 convention, there were five parked near me plus 1 more out of this frame.
Going to load the Cessna 172SP up with spuds and head back later in night IFR over the Cascades and eastern Oregon Wallowas.

I was out playing in the stormy #ORWX tonight in my #XPlane #flightsim, flying from up in the Dalles (Columbia Gorge…hello crosswinds!) back to Eugene (KEUG).
When I arrived in heavy rain back at my real-life old hangar (the closest one to the runway in the infamous Lane Ducks row), some goober in another 172SP had poached my spot because of the precip.
One call to Airport Operations and he was chained down back out on the ramp.

Who says you can’t land a Cessna 172SP on an aircraft #carrier? I just dropped in to visit the fine men and women of the USS #XPlane and stopped before the last arresting cable.
After tying down between a couple of fighter jets below deck, I am going to chow down at the mess hall, I hear they are having Chipped Beef, cob corn and roasted NoDak potatoes. Not a bad menu for the middle of the ocean.

One airport that always stumped me in my IFR traianing was Roseburg, OR (KRBG). It has a tricky VOR-A approach out of the nearby mountains.
Flew the RNAV into there tonight in my #XPlane #flightsim, and when I parked I realized they were having a freakin’ Cessna 172SP fly-in. Maybe there were pancakes and #bacon involved?
My old 172SP with “classic" paint scheme looked like the vintage bird on the ramp.

One of the things my #XPlane #flightsim never got right in my opinion was the brightness of landing lights. They have always been very dim, and at night you do not see the runway until damned near over the numbers.
Last night I finally found the settings for this and tweaked my usual #Cessna 172SP so now it has very wide and bright landing lights. Not real-world, but I can see the whole runway now.

Just flew an IFR RNAV approach into KOTH (So. Oregon Regional) in real-world WX. Kind of a rodeo as we have fronts movng thru.
As soon as I parked my modified Cessna 172SP, a ground push truck drove right thru the fuselage. Such is life in digital flying.
The truck driver’s boss is gunna hear about this.
Instead of “yo, you guys need a push-back” he’ll be asking “you want fries with that?”

So, over the last week or two, I've been working on building a physical #Cessna #C172 #skyhawk #simulator
Only now did I think it might be a good idea to start a thread documenting the design and construction, so here we go!

Always wanted to take my #Cherokee 235 up to Friday Harbor Airport (KFHR) In the San Juan Islands west of Seattle. So I just made the trip virtually. Will spend a few days dinking around in a seaplane just for yucks.
Did not know I needed to clear customs coming in from #Oregon.
“Don’t touch my bags if you please Mr. Customs maaaaan.”
