Really enjoy watching Rebelzize Skyblivion gamedev/playtesting livestreams.Totally romanticize having a passion project for the weekends - and having a community around it that you can nurture. Of course I well understand that it is hard core during the weekends; it is a huge privilege to be able to do so besides a full-time job and whatever else life brings you.

[P] Corporatism is a cancer that's infected video games. It's why I prefer much older games and indies, smaller teams making more resonable games. It's why I also prefer smaller mod projects. I think being corporate is a poison that ruins video games. And Skyblivion has been poisoned in this way. It's being managed as a corporate project, soulless and bland, and fun/passion isn't allowed. I just really hope Skywind does better. But I have worries.

[P] I look at projects like Ruby Rebalanced for Halo 1 and 2, and those are great! Smaller projects by smaller teams, with loads of transparency. The goal is passion and to make something good. It isn't to be a soulless corporation doing crunch and cranking out marketing for those CVs/resumes. I've become distrustful of big modding projects for this reason. It leaves me worried for SkyWind, that they might be too corporate aswell. I hope not.

[P] There are plac3s where it looks worse than Oblivion, and MUCH worse than mods for the original game. You can see this whenever they livestream, and areas/angles/viewpoints not shown in the trailers can be seen. And they look barren. It's a project made as a trailer engine, rather than as a game. There are so many parallels beteeen Skyblivion and corporate modern game design, and it's why I prefer smaller mods. Co4poratising ruins modding.

And from what I've heard, it's gotten worse since then. It's being run like a corporation for those CVa/resumes. There's just so many people exhausted by the crunch and chronic mismanagement, with Rebelzize pushing to market it inatead of make it. And that hurts the project. A lot of the media is faked up with bullshots—and not all of those look especially good.

[P] They need to push it way back, and lock into an older version of the game that their programmers can actually work with. The reason Skywind looks so good is because the leadership there is far more competent; They locked in with a version, and they're taking however much time is needed to properly finish. The Fallout London project showed that locking in with an older version is both a valid option and the right choice. Skyblivion's kind of a mess.

[P] It seems like people lost work due to mismanagement, bad choices, and a lack of any communication from the leadership. And now it feels like it's being rushed out so that said leadership can just get the project on their CVs/resumes, and people are jumping ship. They pushed the project back until 2026 due to the amount leaving, but it sounds like it needs to be 2027 at the very earliest. It's not nearly dons. I get why some are pissed.

[P] I could see it from the media. It hss these really unfinished looking areas and ill-fitting assets that stand out like a sore thumb. The galleons at Anvil docks are so toyetic. A non-trivial amount of it just doesn't look great, it feels like placeholders are being ignored just to push it out the door. And a lot of really bad decisions were made, like jumping the project to a Skyrim version that doesn't support spellcrafting—because reasons.

[P] I was worried about this. I've had... long-time concerns about the two guys acting as Skyblivion's leadership. It's been a thing for far longer than the big scandal. (The one where they were accepting freebies from Microsoft to ban anyone talking about Azure and Gaza around the time of Oblivion Remastered's preorder.) This, though, is about people dropping from the project because it's horribly unfinished and it's being rushed out.

[P] I've been dubious of the Skyblivion project for a long while. Sure, it all culminated with the ban-wave targeted at anyone who spoke of Gaza, the BDS movement, and the boycott on Microsoft for their involvement in murder (Azure used for IDing people, and probably far worse). I nean, a mod team that supports genocide isn't one I'd trust. And seeing the current drama over constant mismanagement? I feel pretty vindicated. Too many chefs in these large-scale mods.

So, keep that in mind.

"Oh, the good kids at Skyblivion will want people to know about this!" I so naively thought. Nope! Silenced and banned! I've seen other posts trying to talk about this get the same treatment. [P] See, here was muggins, thinking that getting free keys for a game from Bethesda, and basking in the glory of being the leaders of a big mod project, was LESS important than letting people know about Microsoft's involvement with researching AI for the purpose of more efficient genocides at Gaza. Sincs giving MS money will end up in that research as it's one of their biggest money-makers (MS wouldn't endure the bad rep, otherwise).

[P] So, yeah, the glory, vanity, and ego even of a notorious modding project with a large team can attract Dark Triad monsters. It seems the problem really is size, vanity, glory, snd ego even more than creating something that makes a profit that results in hiverarchy. I got myself banned from the Skyblivion subreddit. Why? To silence me. I didn't want fellow Skyblivion fans feeling like they had blood on their hwnds.
