  6. youtu.be/vB7VSdQgHoU Dammit, he keeps pointing out limits of my knowledge and understanding of eastern philosophy that I wrote in my book "The #Skeptical #Buddha , the #Tao of #Science . If he puts out more of these videos I am going to HAVE to produce a second edition. I'm not wrong, but I'm massively over simplifying and generalizing. Not like many people have actually read it so I could go for another decade without updating it and no one would be impacted.

  15. It really is funny how much of the "#Skeptical" community turned out to be *phobe, and really only ever at the party because the Americans tended to let Libertarians in, and there was the glimmer of a chance to run the "community member to community-exploitation content producer" game path.

The podcasters who tried to become TV or radio people, the bloggers who were always angling for a book deal...

It was always about the money, and who gets opportunity for money.

  20. Seeing a lot of these ads on Facebook these days. First of all, yeah I look like Week 1 these days. But more importantly I think it's almost impossible you'd see these kinds of results in just 4 weeks without surgery. #skeptical

That looks like a lot more than 22 lbs to me.

  26. The Haunted story un-Smurled

As if you needed more evidence that Ed and Lorraine Warren were horrid people that left a slime trail of lies and destruction from the 1970s to the present day, Kenny Biddle from CSI has dug up considerable history on the Smurl “haunting” in 1985 West Pittston, Pennsylvania. This event was supposedly the basis for The latest Conjuring movie franchise The Conjuring: Last Rites. But Kenny reports the movie has nothing to do with Smurl family’s claims.

By examining newspaper articles, TV interviews, and in-person interviews from the time, plus historical records, Kenny unravels this case that the Warrens considered “demonic”. Instead, it’s crystal clear how the Warrens exaggerated and at least partially fictionalized this case. As with so many of their other infamous cases, the Warren’s template for “investigation” including grabbing media attention and guiding the Smurls into a book deal and eventually a TV movie (from which the Warrens also reaped benefits). Kenny shreds the 1988 book about the case, The Haunted by Robert Curran.

This was a fun and informative step-by-step examination of the way the Warrens took control of the narrative by crafting (or should we say “conjuring”) several mundane events experienced by the family into an exaggerated and preposterous demon infestation. The total video is about 90 minutes. Check it out.

  31. I am still #skeptical of the technology, mostly because it is so easily misused or abused. This is computing’s heavy machinery that consumes stupid-huge quantities of electricity and requires hazardous chemicals to stay properly lubricated. Its promoters want everyone to use it for everything without the specialized training, safety precautions, and enforced regulatory backstops that it clearly needs.
